Brilliant. Just teaching my granddaughter how to crochet and decided to give simple instructions as she will work out what’s comfortable for her with time. I just hope I’m doing the correct thing as she is left handed so I’ve taught her to hold the hook in her right hand? Perhaps I should show her how to crochet with her dominant left hand?? Any ideas?? Ps: I’m right handed. 😃
ОтветитьI hold the hook like that too but I weave the yarn through the fingers on my left hand and it flows over the top of my index finger. I wouldn't say my finger sticks up much and I don't get any pain from it. I also pinch the work with my left thumb and middle finger as I go which helps with tension and I also hold onto the work with my right hand with the fingers that are not holding the hook! 😊
I taught my daughter to crochet and she does the complete opposite to me 😂
Thank you, I will try this! Hopefully I can get it, looks so much more comfortable and efficient.
ОтветитьI hold my hook like a knife, but hold my yarn how you do.
I use my middle finger to guide and lift the yarn .... never before saw anyone do that...
But you do😀🥰
Tuula said on another video that Finns mostly crochet like she does. This is no wonder because this uniform technique has been taught by teachers who were educated to teach it this way. And it still goes on in every comprehensive school today. Teaching textile techniques in school is aiming at the best ergonomics. The same idea goes to knitting as well, we teach no pointing fingers. With these techniques it is possible to speed up, too, as they don't strain one's physics as much as some others do.
My comment was not written to disapprove other ways of crocheting or learning the art. My idea was to explain the background behind "Tuula's way". The main thing is to crochet along and enjoy it!
My grandmother taught me to crochet that way when I was 9 years old. I subsequently taught my daughter the same way! I rarely see anyone else do it this way though. ❤❤❤
ОтветитьThat’s the way I was taught to hold a crochet hook and yarn. A family friend from Norway taught me, when I was four or five.
ОтветитьI’ve seen so many videos of yarn holds but none looked like the way I learned from my grandmother - except yours! It was so interesting to me that the lifted index finger seems to be the most popular way. I have tried it that way but can’t get my head around how to keep my tension consistent like that. But I’ve been doing it your way since I was a little girl, so I guess it is pretty ingrained in my muscle memory by now. 😎
ОтветитьShe is simply the best teacher!👑
ОтветитьJust slower when crocheting some of us are beginners
ОтветитьIm nitting with my fingers right now 😑
ОтветитьI hold it this way as well.
ОтветитьI hold my yarn like that and bending my finger like that causes rsi since it’s bent inwards while bringing the yarn over any tips?
ОтветитьYou’re an angel. God bless you.
ОтветитьWhat’s the type of yarn you’re using? It’s so pretty! I’m going to give crochet a try, though my knitting ways do make this just a bit challenging 😅
ОтветитьI use the "holding the knife technique". However, I'm interested in learning the "holding the pen" technique, so I can Crochet faster.
ОтветитьMy mum taught me to hold it exactly like you I am now 72 so now I'm beginning again with your help thank you 🇬🇧
ОтветитьWhat is the name of the hook your using with no handle please uk
ОтветитьAll tips were great you are only one who has shown us.the straight edge one was great.also the extra stitch to finish.thank you 🇬🇧
ОтветитьI hold my yarn and crochet this way as well and that is how I was taught. I always wondered if it was unusual.
ОтветитьFinally, someone who holds it all like me. 😊
I began in the 70s
I do the same thing with my yarn in my left hand
ОтветитьI thought I was the only one who didn’t hold up their index finger. I can’t control my work w my middle finger and thumb only. Love this ❤
ОтветитьTuula you look so cute.😊💗
That is the way that I hold my hook.
I am so glad to see the way you hold your tarn tension with your left hand!! This is how I did it for years until I was told it was "wrong." I have been desperately trying to re-learn to hold it the more common way, but that gives me such bad hand cramps. Going back to my old faithful method!!
ОтветитьI hold mine almost the same way.
ОтветитьI do exactly the same way hook and yarn 😮
ОтветитьI hold my hook like you do which I am beginning to think is old fashioned! But I can't do it any other way
ОтветитьThats my method, and I never see anyone else using this method. I am 66 so must be what we were taught when we were young.
ОтветитьThank you for teaching us this Interesting way to crochet. I didn't understand at all how to keep tension on he left hand. Maybe you could do a similar tutorial, but focus on the left hand too?
ОтветитьThat's the way I hold mine. I've never seen anyone else do this. So glad you made this video.
ОтветитьI’ve tried holding it different ways but always go back to the way my nan taught me. Yarn over the middle finger as the guide and holding it like you’d hold your knife and fork opposite to what she says. I would get RSI if I held it like a pen 😏
ОтветитьI have never seen anyone hold both hands the way you do, except for me. I was happy to see that!
Ответитьi also crochet like this! it is just much faster for me and gives me more control. however i’ve noticed that my index finger gets sore/chafed from the project or hook rubbing against it. any tips?
ОтветитьI like your way better
ОтветитьFinally, someone else who does it like me! Taught myself in 2009. Happy stitching!
ОтветитьI hold my yarn and hook like I'm knitting and many say it looks like I'm knitting when I crochet-- I learned to crochet to give my hands/wrist a break from knitting and now I have two hobbies with the same movements instead!
ОтветитьThank you so much. I almost gave up on learning to crochet today because I was struggling with how to hold the yarn.
ОтветитьThis is how I do it and I thought it was wrong, thank you ❤
ОтветитьThank you!!! Thank you!!!! This is how I hold my yarn, hook and work! ❤
ОтветитьI hold my yarn like this too! I am not able to do the pencil hold, the knife hold is my choice for holding hooks🥰 Your videos were/are very helpful on my crochet journey.
ОтветитьThat’s exactly the way I crochet. Thank you.
ОтветитьGlad to see you hold your yarn this way because it is the way I old mine. Thank you.
ОтветитьDoes it work with thinner hooks?
ОтветитьI hold my hook like a knife that you are about to stab someone with but I am the person being stabbed
ОтветитьOMWow!! How COOL. I Do this way Too.. And even More on here! Awesome. I once seen. 1 lady years ago. And to watch this AND SEE Y’all do too.. How Sweet..🙏🕊🙏🤟
ОтветитьThis was exactly what I needed! I wanted to pinch the work with my index finger and thumb so badly but didn’t know how to do it.
ОтветитьI do it almost the same but I use my pointer finger the same way you use the middle finger. Otherwise we do it the same. I don't stick my finger out. Nobody would hold there finger out like that unless they were taught to do that because its not normal. Its only normal for them because they have always done it that way. Thank you!!
ОтветитьWow! I thought I was the only one. Glad I see someone else doing this. It's very comfortable for me. I tried the other way with the pointer finger up and just cant do it
Ответить
