Thank you
ОтветитьDo you have a video for bonding two dogs? My girl is 6 (chihuahua) and I brought home a 14 week
Old chihuahua, and they sometimes play together but the older dog doesn’t like if the younger one comes near her to sleep, cuddle, lick etc. and I also find the younger pup licks the older girls mouth (inside) excessively and whines if older one growls.
I wish I'd found you when my kids were toddlers!
ОтветитьThis is a great video
ОтветитьA wonderful lesson, once again!
ОтветитьHow does blinking our eyes help to relax puppies? (Are they scared when we have a stare look?). Thanks
ОтветитьWell done Emily. I will be working on this with my Red Heeler. He can get hyped up at times so thank you for the training video.
ОтветитьI would really like to get my puppy to learn this but she's way too busy tearing up whatever mat I put down for her..
ОтветитьSighing and slow blinks are awesome to point out!
ОтветитьThank you so much for these videos!! I have effectively trained my 6 & 9 month old border collie crosses how to settle using your techniques. I've got one falling asleep at my feet in the 4th session, and the other one is asleep a couple of metres away in the same room. I crate trained them which has been amazing but when I started taking the 6 month old to therapy dog training classes I realised she doesn't settle in public very well. I've been wondering if it's even possible at all and here she is sleeping at my feet right now.
Ответитьok karen
ОтветитьDo you have any suggestions on a puppy who seems to just not settle when waiting to capture this ? We were in the bathroom with no distractions or interesting things and we reached 25 minutes still without laying down and settling.
ОтветитьSo before starting on the mat we should do the 5 days of giving treats when they are relaxing around the house? or can we start with the mat right away?
Ответитьi'm trying to work on relaxing outside. i don't know how to deal with my dog's impatience and "turning off." she definitely performs behaviors to get my attention, when i ignore this she starts barking and lunging up to bite my clothes. i try to keep my calm but its very overwhelming, and just keeps escalating. do you have any advice?
ОтветитьMy puppy has literally never settled infront if me 😂.
ОтветитьThis is so amazing. Thank you for sharing!
ОтветитьWhat do you do if your dog comes out of the down and off the mat? Do you need to lure them back in?
When does the exercise finish? Could you do for an hour? Constantly luring your dog back on if it gets back up?
I needed this. Unfortunately some family like to rile up my dog, it can be very frustrating.
ОтветитьI'm dogsitting my mom's extremely high arousal golden for 12 days and getting this settle down is my project with him
ОтветитьMy worry with this one is whether it's training my dog to find relaxing a potential source of excitement, so he can never fully relax because it's a situation he has to 'monitor' in case he has to 'do work'. We leave our dog be in an unstimulating environment to cue him to relax so he gets some sleep, without that he just doesn't stop. So unsure whether introducing treats to his relaxing is going to make relaxing no longer chill for him
ОтветитьI have a 14 week old very energetic Belgian Malinios. When he is not being a little land-shark, he is harassing and basically terrorizing his 7 y/o GSD, and the GSD is not very happy at that point. How do I get started with him?
ОтветитьGreat video! Great tips! Your dogs are so beautiful! I also love your Lavender picture!
ОтветитьSo from a dead sleep my puppy can hear me reach for my pocket for a treat from a different room, there’s virtually no sound and when he hears it he’s no longer sleeping/calm. How can I teach settle if I can’t catch him being calm?
ОтветитьWait, treat them for sleeping? Why not just let the sleep? This seems to turn you into a human PEZ dispenser.
ОтветитьGetting a poodle pup soon and been bingeing your content. So unique, and what's more I already feel that it's going to change me as a person to train my dog like this by becoming a person that focuses on the positives in behavior and life.
Question, you use the clicker a lot in your training in your other vids, but is this all possible without the clicker?
.?
ОтветитьThank you for your amazing videos, small question tho, when do you add the verbal cue settle or relax, not sure about the timing
ОтветитьMy puppy never just lays down unless hes chewing something. Should i reward then? Or if hes just sitting quietly?
ОтветитьCommenting so the algo will bring me more kikopup and less of the whispering dude.
ОтветитьAn honest trainer.
ОтветитьGreat video! (as always)
ОтветитьI'm glad I came across this video and channel, I have a rescue that is overly excited almost always. The information you've provided will be so helpful in our journey!
ОтветитьI’m an ambulatory wheelchair user and I have difficulty teaching the down and also doing this, because I can’t bend down enough to do it without the treat dropping, rolling away etc. I can’t sit on the floor, and my chair is too high for me to reach all the way down. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get around this?
ОтветитьThank you so much for your informative videos! The step by step is so helpful for me as I learn how to train my pup. He is doing a great job and now knows about 18 commands. Unfortunately I haven't been able to practice the calm behavior with him as he can't see a mat, blanket, or bed without trying to "dig" on it or bite it. Do you happen to have any tips on how to explain to him the difference between a bed and a toy? Thanks again for your great videos!
ОтветитьLove this ! I'm a dog sitter and do a fair bit of training and enjoy watching different training videos. I love the term 'capturing' - so many people don't reward behaviours the dog offers naturally (any behaviours, not just settle) Settle is so important and something many people miss out. I particulary like this approach, as i was taught the 'mat/down stay/rewarding each progression' method, but i also reward for naturally offered behaviour, as yes, dogs can get MORE excited by frequent praise and rewarding, which is fine for building fast enthusiastic responses, but as a trainer still learning myself (do we ever stop ? 😂) i struggle most with training and rewarding the calmer behaviours. I sometimes interupt the dog getting it right with a praise word or reward, then it falls apart - my bad ! I particularly struggle with 'heel' and dogs which pull (the bane of a dogsitters life !) Regarding 'settle' , I use a dog sitting site and the amount of listings and reviews I read which state 'he/she will follow you everywhere' or 'he/she is like a little shadow', like its a good thing. To me, it indicates anxiety, hyper vigilance and reinforces separation anxiety. I wish people would watch stuff like this when getting a dog !
ОтветитьI have 6 dogs, 1 is 16 yrs old & food aggressive ( he's a rescue I adopted in June) & 1 is a 3 month old pup I'm trying to train. They all come running when treats come out. How do I train them all? Btw, my 10 yr old isn't treat motivated & has reaction issues with dogs she doesn't know.
ОтветитьLove this video! All the trainers I’ve talked to haven’t addressed the part where they get excited from the treat. Love the very straightforward, realistic advice. Going to start tomorrow.
ОтветитьI have a new dog and decided to combine this settle reinforcement (he is a velcro dog who loves my fiance so even him being in a separate unreachable room can result in whining) with sit, wait, and down in everyday life. We use sit/wait everytime we go through doors and decided it was important to start this from the beginning (he already has a solid sit, when not distracted, from a previous owner). Down is also important in our house and "go lay down"/"place", a variation with more autonomy & one for their mat, so we are starting it early even though we arent doing "formal" training yet. He also either has some heel training or is a natral heeler so we will start working that into our daily walks. He is so far proving to be a very quick learner and taking life moments to start the basic training has been the natral path
ОтветитьBrilliant vid, not only showing each step for training the settle but giving loads of troubleshooting advice to help as people go through their training. Thanks!
ОтветитьI’ve tried this on my 7month old beagle, unfortunately, once I give the treat she gets up from her relaxed state to follow me around. I don’t like that. I feel like I ruined her relaxation.
ОтветитьFantastic info! So glad my friend Melissa recommended you!
ОтветитьI just inherited a VERY large dog. He's a mix bread. Maybe Rottweiler and German Shepherd. He's gigantic and needs to know what you're doing ALL THE TIME. You get up, he gets up. He's a very friendly guy but chaotic AF! I'm goint to try with treating him for relaxing.
ОтветитьHoo boy! I over-indexed on fast, high reward training sessions with my Corgi (2yr) and now suddenly I'm dealing with him taking out frustrations on our 10yr old chihuahua mix. Realizing that I've made him overly vigilant and created some resource guarding (me/treat bag). So even though we're not new to each other, I hope that doing just calm settle training (and the multi dog version) for the next week or so will see a difference in their ability to get along and to bring down the intensity. Thanks for making this!!
ОтветитьMy dog does well at home but a nightmare at cafes
ОтветитьThis is simply brilliant
ОтветитьLearned so much from this! Can't wait to try if out on my next dog. Thank you!
ОтветитьSo if I need this during events do the same I’m a vendor so I would need to do this while I’m sitting when she lyes hand out treat 😊
ОтветитьI’m already at the treat when I’m anxious area so now I don’t know if this is going to work at the events I need to take her already this weekend I feel all hope is lost I’m going to practice this weekend on treats when she relaxes on her own and see how this goes 🫣😭😫
