Great montage you do it better every time , thanks.
ОтветитьOnly problem with this countdown is “Say, Say, Say “ and “Ebony and Ivory “ are not included because this list was compiled right after the death of John Lennon.
ОтветитьI BOUGTH THIS VERY SAME SHOW MANY YEARS AGO TO WALT BAILEY . NOW I HAVE THE CHANCE TO THE SEE. THE COVERS OF THE SINGLES!!! THANKS A LOT!!!
Ответить@AT40 Montages I was wondering if you could find the "special" AT40 Countdown from I believe in the late part of 1976 that played the forty biggest number one hits in the U.S. during "the Beatle years" from January 1964 to June 1970, they were hits that all stayed at number one for more than four and five weeks during that aforementioned 1964-1970 period?????
ОтветитьThis is AMAZING!! In your spare time, do you mind doing end of year montages per year (70s -90s)? Would be great to go back and reminisce! THANK YOU in advance for all you do to keep memories like this alive!!
ОтветитьI was expecting IMAGINE and A DAY IN THE LIFE in this countdown. Also YELLOW SUBMARINE lol. And ELEANOR RIGBY.
ОтветитьVery strange that Casey totally glossed over the fact that John had been killed.
ОтветитьThis Top 40 List of Beatles songs is a big JOKE!! This is the WORST List of Beatles songs EVER. FACT!
ОтветитьActually “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da” was released as a single…in November of 1976. It peaked at #49 on the Billboard chart.
ОтветитьI am amazed at how BAD this list is. But then, their best scuff were not released as singles.
ОтветитьWhere is " Let It Be"?
ОтветитьPeople stop being triggered about not mentioning John's death. Funny list , like to know how they put it together. Weird placings . 39 penny lane? Really behind juniors farm 😂. Sheesh
ОтветитьWell, only 13 pieces of "Sir Paul McCartney" garbage in this list, so not too bad. The best song on the list is We Can Work It Out. My favorite Beatles song of all.
ОтветитьPeople complaining about this list are pretty funny. It is not a list of someone's favorite Beatles & solo Beatles songs. It is a list compiled by the US Billboard singles chart success of the various songs between 1964 and 1981. It is a list created by chart success and nothing else. Probably the most interesting thing about this list - is that John Lennon would not have had any solo songs on the list if he had not been killed. "Starting Over" which made #3 on this list... only gained traction after John had been killed. The song had peaked and started to go the other way on the chart before John was killed. Both of John's songs on this list only became hit singles - after John was killed.
ОтветитьWhat about AT40 special countdown "Book of records" from summer of 1980? Would like to listen to that special show again.
ОтветитьI'm not sure how they worked out this ranking, but when they mention how well a song did in the weekly chart, it corresponds with the Billboard Hot 100. However, there are a few odd omissions.
The Beatles had 33 number one singles in the chart, but only 32 of them made this top 40. "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night" is missing.
If we include the songs that made it to no. 2, then we arrive at a total of 39. But of those six no. 2 hits, they only included 3 of them here: "Woman," "Live And Let Die" and "Twist And Shout." Missing from the list are "Do You Want To Know A Secret?" "Yellow Submarine" and "All Those Years Ago."
Only one no. 3 hit would be needed to complete the total of 40. They've included three of them here: "Nowhere Man," "Junior's Farm" and "Please Please Me." But the no. 3 that stayed in that position the longest isn't listed: "Let 'Em In." Other no. 3 hits from the solo Beatles include "Instant Karma," "Imagine" and "No No Song."
They also include a song on their list that peaked at no. 4: "It Don't Come Easy." Also reaching that position were "She's A Woman" and "Lady Madonna."
And somehow, they managed to throw in a no. 5 hit: "Goodnight Tonight." Another song that reached that position was "Oh My My."
I never missed American Top 40 with Casey Kasem. I have great memories of writing down the 40 songs as he played them. I do think they should have made this an exclusive Beatles countdown, without including the solo Beatle material, just my opinion.
ОтветитьRest in peace Kasey Kasem u r a great presenter
ОтветитьPenny Lane was Paul’s song
ОтветитьWrong You Are, When You Are…
“Penny Lane” was about Paul McCartney’s experiences in Liverpool, not John Lennon’s experiences.
“Michelle” was purely a Paul McCartney tune.
“Come Together” was a John Lennon rip-off of a Chuck Berry song. Hence, the reason why Lennon alone was sued by the music publishers.
I grew up in the seventies with Casey Kasem. For me an examply for my later years as a radio dj. Thanks for posting it. Greetz Fred.
ОтветитьThank you for this. I remember listening to this countdown back in 1981. This was a great nostalgia trip.
Ответить2 songs in and Casey is describing Penny Lane more as a Lennon composition.
ОтветитьLoved listening to Casey Kasem's AT 40 in th 80's.
ОтветитьPretty cool idea but this list is just way off. Aside from mixing Beetle and non Beatle songs, how were the non-single songs on this list even selected?? And then just the order of these songs.... "Yesterday" is number 12 (so there's 11 better/more popular songs?), but "Starting Over" by John in #3?? I love Lennon, but no....come on now.😂
ОтветитьWhere TF were Imagine, Instant Karma, Day Tripper, Whatever Gets You Thru The Night to name a few? And yet we get the Wings garbage like Goodnight Tonight, With A Little Luck and so on. Always thought Casey Kasem was a weasel. Proves it here putting together a crap list like this. Lennon and McCartney were the most successful songwriters. You can't just separate them like that. Many of those songs were completely or partly written by John.
ОтветитьWell... for a UK audience, you'd have to include 'Mull Of Kintyre' in the Top-40, a song which was quite under-rated in the States;
(and please omit 'I Am The Walrus'...!)
Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds was not about an LSD trip. Uh..sure ok!
