My brother-in-law offered to take us to BGC the last time we were in the Philippines. It’s funny LV and Ruth Chris doesn’t impress me but definitely worth visiting when there is time. Checked out the map and it’s close to Forbes Park, the residential place of the top .01% of the Philippines.

He's right . I have found that my wife and I can live ok on my Social Security here in the Makati/BGC area . And yes , as always there will be some trade offs . But so far , we have found that it's worth it .

I spent several months in the Philippines with 2 weeks of that time in Makati. I took day trips to BGC as well. Makati and BGC are as modern as any Western city, but at a much cheaper cost. They’re much more expensive than the rest of the Philippines, but you could live there comfortably off $2K a month.

Personally, I don’t plan on going back. I got food poisoning three different times in the Philippines.

What is interesting is the prices are still looking about the same on Airbnb than they did a year ago. The general rule of thumb is whatever youre paying a month for an Airbnb you could get that place half if you do a longterm lease. I wonder if they have kicked out a bunch of the Chinese. There were so many in those areas

I stayed a few weeks in Makati last year, close to P Burgos Street, The Red light District. I stayed in City Garden and IM Hotel both were nice with cool pool. I hated the area, They did have places open 24 hours to eat like Burger King, Pizza and KFC but it was so dirty and full of traffic and if you tried to take a taxi they would always rip you off, Grab was fine. I have been to Philippines about 18 trip now. I will try BGC area next time, but the area of Makati I stayed in wasn't good, I was across street from Trump Tower which that place looked nice but it condos to buy. P Burgos was seedy to me, Way way too many prostitutes bothering you if you walked by.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 To all the young people out there, if you are dreaming of a very comfortable retirement life in South East Asia 🏝️⛱️ you would need to prioritize saving and investing your earnings.

In today’s money, I am talking about a retirement income of at least $5,000 per month per couple. If you can plan to have a steady retirement income double that amount, you would be at par with the rich society in that region of the world 💃🏼🕺🏼✈️⛵️🏄‍♂️🏌️‍♀️🍾🥂🥩🍱. My wife and I love our family so much, especially our grandchildren that we decided to remain in the U.S. for the rest of our life.

I would say that to live like a millionaire anywhere in Southeast Asia would take a minimum of $3k USD a month. Totally doable 👍🏼
Can be extremely comfortable between $1500 and $2500 USD monthly.

Paul, I just got back from traveling around Cebu, Duma, Siquijor and Bohol. I added up my expenses for my five weeks in PH from a couple of months ago. It came to around $1100 for food, transportation and lodging. I could not have traveled much more frugal but was surprised at how inexpensive it could be. Air BnBs/hostels ranged from $9 to $16 a night (about half had aircon). Transportation was $7 every few days to rent a scooter plus jeepnie and bus fares in between those days. Food was about $10 a day eating street food and McDonalds. I was even able to visit a few waterfalls and beaches every few days. The two weeks before I was on a cruise to NZ with a friend. Even though the cruise was so perfect and deluxe I enjoyed the PH much more. The friendliness of the people was amazing.

Greenbelt and Salsedo are great. Foreigners seem to blend in, Dumagette, so many lonely, single, casually dressed men roaming the boulevard. We were in Makati last May, and we were in Dumaguete last weekend.

Paul, just a heads up here. There’s possibility of a MEGA earthquake (9+) originating from the fault line between P.I. and Japan in early JULY, 2025 - less than 68 days from today, April 24th. Normally, I pay no attention to ANY fortune teller. HOWEVER…this Japanese fortune teller (RYO TATSUKI) that predicted this mega quake to happen around JULY 5th 2025, has an uncanny ability to foresee the future. She nailed the last 03/11/2011 Japan earthquake with the huge tsunami, the death of Queen singer Freddy Mercury, the death of Princess Diana, as well as other predictions. She has a track record better than Nostradamus. If I was in P.I., I would fly out to somewhere INLAND before July 1st for about 2 weeks, since ALL of P.I. might be affected. Japan will get hit HARD. Again, that’s just me, and your beliefs might be different. Of course, we all hope it DOESN’T happen, but JUST IN CASE it does, it’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made. I’m in Tucson, Arizona and I was planning on a recon trip to Japan in July, but I cancelled my trip.
