I came on here because I needed to watch Florence Griffith Joyner run. I remember how much of a sensation she was back in '88. That was 36 years ago! And I am still left mesmerized. I am in awe of this woman. He running form is flawless. Textbook. Graceful.. Smooth. Relaxed. I am not even a track and field novice I barely know anything about the nuances of the sport. However I know what my eyes tell me. She just looks different. I don't mean in physical appearance. I just mean in how she ran. He strides look so neat and effortless and graceful. Its actually beautiful in terms of what the human form is capable of in running at such an accelerated speed with that much grace. We are blessed. Rest In Paradise Florence.

In 1988, the men's WR was 9.93 by Carl Lewis, now improved to 9.58 by Usain Bolt. There has been no improvement in women's 100m 200m 400m or 800m WR in four decades. Also, her 100m PB improved by 0.47 in a year and her 200 PB by 0.62. Her husband, Al Joyner put her improvements down to training techniques. If so, why has no american won the Olympic 100m since Gail Devers in 1996???

Grace Jackson was second with a time of 21.72 and was 3 strides behind. If you pause it when Flo-Jo crosses the line Gabby Thomas, who won gold in 2024 in 21.83, would have been in between the 2nd and 3rd place runners. Flo-Jo was crazy fast.

Why do the great ones go so soon? Florence Griffith-Joyner was a marvel to watch. Each stride she took reminded me of a throroughbred racehorse. She was SO amazing that her world recoords in both the 100 metres and 200 meters still stand. You are DEFINITELY missed "Flo-Jo"! May you rest in peace.
