Said it before in another video. React comment relies on a parasocial relationship to imitate the experience of watching with friends irl.

I took this video personally. I only sub(i mean just a follower) to you. Not others. So in my case will always recomend me you, and not others. (not the mayority of the cases, sadly you still are at point with the video).
Even when exceptions to the rule like me exist.
Edit: only to your main channel, this cannel just appears, and im not sub(again means follow) to this one.

Reaction videos are the lowest form of content creation.

It saddens me that having creative integrity is a liability. I watch for your wit and insight. Personally I find Asmongold grating and sometimes cringy.

Throwing my anecdote in:
Like most people, Asmon's reactions introduced me to you. The more he reacted to you, the more I wanted to see your content. Eventually I decided that he wasn't reacting to you often enough, so I went to your channel and binged your playlists. I'm not sure I would have done that if he had reacted to you daily, particularly because having the same video with an extra added layer does act as a replacement that incentivizes me to watch it over the original. Getting to hear supporting/detracting views or specialized insights alongside original content is more expansive and arguably "superior" from the consumer perspective.

Two years later, I now immediately subscribe to and watch the high effort channels that he reacts to because doing so has proven beneficial to me as a content consumer. Patterns suggest to me that doing so is at least partially learned behaviour and I could believe that more passive content consumers have a lower tendency to learn such behaviour.

In the inverse, I likely would not have watched your main channel had Asmon not reacted to you, even if it had popped up in recommended. MMO-related content doesn't interest me on its own, rather the personality is crucial to me watching such content. It would likely take a few years for your Josh Strife Plays channel to show up in recommended, as well. All in all, I agree than it all really is just pro's and con's with diminishing returns in exposure for the "reactee."

Side note: More "Was it Good?" please. Josh Strife Plays is my cup of tea.

I've stopped watching reactions.
Mostly due to Asmongold. He will double the length of the source material, and that actually destroys the value of the original.

Now when I see a reaction, I'll think "Oh that must be a good one!" Then go and find and watch the original with its intended pacing.

The way I see it, Asmongold is gonna make a shitload of money no matter what he does. Whether it is reactions, bad takes, or gameplay. If someone benefits directly from something he does I would call that a win. He may benefit more, but he does not react to every single video that people put out. That would be a problem.

i'm glad he mentioned darkviper explicitly, because this is pretty much entirely covered in his video about "reactors."
there is no upside to it. the nature of impressions is entirely unrelated to personal successes as a consequence of reactors.

Hey guys, I am making a video on how viewers from streams or react channels can best support the person who made the watched content without taking any time of your day. I will explain one way which is the way I do it, but do any of you have any other suggestions? And no, liking, subscribing and commenting does not count.

I’m starting to really not like reaction videos. I just watched one from Asmongold that took zero work on his part. He took a guys hard research and editing and simply paused it every 30 seconds to say a word or two. Asman gold did absolutely no work on this he just live streamed someone else’s work and claimed it for his own because he said a few things. In fact the one I just watched he didn’t even acknowledge whose video it was! To me that’s the worst. Reaction videos are LAZY!!! but at the very very very very least give credit to the video you’re stealing!

I don't like react channels, i don't watch your stream. but your reactions are more than that, you add interactivity, a bit of philosophy and create nice discussions.
I also don't even care what the the subject is about, the philosophical take from you is entertaining.

Fantastic discussion but i believe the idea of content is that it is tied to the creator whether you see it as the "value" comes from the creators hard work or if the creator gives inherent value. I imagine size affects this but the parasocial relationship built is a quality of the creator not the content and the money and impressions comes from the parasocials, this says to me that without the quality of the creator no content can have quality

I know your channel from very long time ago. Before react content was so popular as it is now. Why I stuck with your channel for years is the quality of your content. It is at the top of being entertaining and informative. Takes a real talent to pull a combination as such. Thanks and respect.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the diminishing (or negative) returns comment. The first reaction or two will help you stand out from the thousands of other creators struggling to grow. At that point, much of the reactor's audience will have seen your name and gotten an impression of your content. They'll then either check out your stuff, or they won't bother. The ones who make the decision to check out your stuff (especially the stuff being reacted to) only after a multitude of videos are going to be in a very small minority. After those initial reactions, all further reactions are doing is providing an alternative (and more prominent) account to view your content on; an account whose views put no money in your pocket.

I did not find you through reacts. I saw you through a Zepla video like last year? and absolutely did not feel a need to go watch your video. It was very good, but I've seen it.

Eventually, I refound you via a "Josh breaks Zepla without saying a word" short video, and ended up in a Josh Strife Says hole that lead to Otherland. Which is when it solidified my genuine respect. But that was months, maybe longer, where I definitely felt no need to watch Josh because someone I already watch reacted instead.

The most recent Jocat ffxiv video dropped off trending the next day, and a giant pile of reaction videos skyrocketed instead. Jocat is not gaining any exposure from people. And I dearly doubt he's gaining anything other than his own personal good feelings that someone like him gets when he sees people enjoying his things.

I'll be honest Josh, I usually put your videos up as second monitor content while I do stuff, and when that's done, I look up an Asmongold reaction of that so I can listen to his opinion of things, though not always.

We watch your videos because of both you, and your analytical nature, and we watch Asmongold also because of him, and his analytical nature. He is not necessarily replacing you as the content, to me he is another addition to it.

It does suck that he can get double the views with half the effort required compared to your own, but most people are watching his reaction mostly for him, they unlikely would've looked up your video and sit through it if Asmon wasn't in it, so they never should've mattered in the first place if they weren't going to care about your video at all.

You’re charismatic and great at presenting the information, but ultimately I do think it’s your content i’m watching for, it’s genuinely thought provoking, and in a span of days my views on MMO’s have changed for the better.
But I think creator and creation are intrinsically linked, without you, your content would simply not exist, I’m watching for the quality of content but it’s only there for me to watch because YOU made it.

Asmon mentioned in one of his videos how he wished he could split the monetization with the creators he does reaction videos of. I think it should just be a default option for all videos to share with other channels because like if you did a collaboration, or used footage from someone else etc, it would make the whole process more seamless. Creators could just send a message "hey I'm using X content of yours, I'm gonna give you Y% of revenue. Is that alright?" and boom solved

It is going to take a landmark case to say that "No, you cannot re-upload an entire 20 minute video that someone else made, even if you have inserted your comments into snippets. That isn't sufficiently transformative" to change the landscape.

This is something the Fine Bros did well, that people have abandoned: they showed you enough of the video to get you enticed, but not enough to let an interested viewer feel as though they have watched the video.

On the topic of creator and content, I think the content is important, but the way Josh presents the content is just as important for engagement with the interesting content. Like a boring teacher worsening a fascinating subject or a fun teacher enhancing boring content. It's all in presentation.
