I really try not to be too sensitive about jokes like these but I do find it pretty disrespectful to act like sobriety is an "era" a person can have when (for most) it's a deeply personal, life-altering decision. And saying you're sober (even as a joke) and then drinking almost plays at mocking a relapse. Which, again, is not a laughing matter.
It's very clear he was kidding about being sober but as someone who is sober it's not a joke and I just wanted to put this out there to be a bit more conscious about what it is you're telling jokes about. Particularly on the Internet where so many people will see it and possibly be affected.
It's okay if you find this funny. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad about that. Just remember that sobriety is serious and not something to be mocked.
