Is M1 PRO better than M4 air?

wow. the M1 Pro might be all I need thats sick.

I do 6k editing with Premier Pro with 24gb ram and I am just fine.

I got the m2 in April 2023 and surprisingly finding it lagging sometimes when making simple iMovie videos. Otherwise a powerful device even after 2 years.

how much ram is on each machine? are they all the base models?

Currently using the m2 pro macbook but I'm really debating on getting the m4 pro or not

Should I consider a M4 base? Or just get an M2 Pro

Macbook Pro M2Pro with 12cpu 19 gpu, 16gb 1TB ssd , or
Macbook Pro M3Pro with 11cpu 14gpu, 18 gb 512 ssd, or
Macbook Pro M4 with 10cpu 10gpu, 16gb 512 ssd.
All three prizes are same in my region. I am especially using xCode , android studio and vs code all together sometimes docker.

I've spent hours researching what laptop to buy and had finally narrowed it down to looking at Macbook Pros and comparing models from the last few years. I'm a photographer and also use my laptop for music production, so I wanted to make sure I bought something that can actually handle the workload. (currently have a Razer but it's reached the end of it's life sadly) Can't tell you how much I appreciate your clear and focused presentation of information after all the long and tedious videos I've forced myself to sit through (no offense to the boring video makers their efforts were appreciated)

Would it be worth trading in my 2021 base model 14 inch M1 Macbook Pro for an M4 Macbook Pro using Apple's trade in program, specifically for music production? I am just a hobbyist and haven't maxed out the capabilities of my base model 14 inch M1 Pro yet in Logic, but I am curious about the extra headroom on the M4 Pro. On the flip side, since I am not a professional and am not regularly working with 100+ track projects, maybe the upgrade would be lost on me, I don't know? My M1 Pro still feels plenty capable after all.

I upgraded from a late 2015 i5 iMac to a M2 Pro in late 2023. I was not satisfied in how long it took to edit and render pictures from my Digital Nikon camera or my previous Canon. However, I was extremely disappointed that the improvements were almost not noticeable. It still took minutes to render a photo after even a small edit. I thought after upgrading almost 8 years in advancements, the pictures would take seconds. Needless to say I don't see that big of an improvement between the M2pro and M4pro to make it worth while. It looks like the M5 will have huge improvements in graphics. So instead of getting the M4 Pro now, I'm just going to wait on the M5.

Great info. I am wanting to purchase my first laptop for myself and avoid using a work Ipad. I am interested in the 16" for trading stocks and or looking at charts with web browsing. Movies and music would be additional interests. I have done a lot of research and the prices are varied on M1-4. What I don't know is what I realistically will and won't notice which could make for a solid decision between them all. Anyone? Thanks in advance!!

This comparison is the GOAT. I was tempted by the m4 series due to the performance improvement, but I’m still so happy with my M1 Pro. I’ll stick with it for the next two years at least!

Hi, I found a good deal on second hand market with 1190 usd for 16 inch, 1Tb, 16 gb ram m2 pro 2023 without apple care or should I top up to 1400 usd for a base m4 pro?

For me my M1 Pro is enough, but, as I understand it, if I want a performance boost in video editing, then only upgrade to any Max chips, since they have 2 video encode engines.

I'm looking for a replacement for my MBP 2015 i7, so in same money I'm able to get MBP m1 14' or MBA m3 14' with. And TBH I cannot decide, i won't play games on this, mostly it will be focused on programming, learning, no graphic stuff etc. I know that based on what I said MBA sounds reasonable but MBP have better screen/ speakers etc.

If I have to go for a budgeted refurbished pro laptop, for not so heavy task to keep for years(I dont like to change frequently) which one should I go?

At this point I feel that NPU is left with the promise of, almost the same as Apple Intelligence, maybe it will change and I hope so, but there are so many companies using AI for so many new things that I don't know if what Apple Intelligence does will really end up convincing .

My wife has been using the og regular M1 chip MacBook Air I got her when the thing first came out. Now that she has her full time career, the thing can’t keep up anymore. Definitely gonna surprise her with a M3 Pro MacBook very soon. The work isn’t M4 Pro level but M3 Pro should be more than enough, overkill even.

9 months ago I purchased upgraded 16inch m3pro with 36gb of GPU, 512Gb on ebay for $2080 +tax... now I want m4pro but 14 inch version.. Apple offers $1,190 for my 16 inch m3pro as a trade-in for buying 14 inch m4pro.. the remaining balance would be almost $1000... does the idea sound very stupid or slightly stupid?

I got the M2 Max chip in March of 2023 then they came out with the M3 later that year. But I needed more RAM so i got the M4 Max with 64 GB of RAM vs. 48 GB. The M4 is one hell of a computer but the M2 is just as good too.

My office got me an M3 Pro September this year because it was the time (company policies laptops should be replaced every 3 years). And after quick search oh boy the spec bump from M2 Pro to M3 pro and M3 pro to M4 pro was sooo different. M2 pro to M3 pro only got insignificant update (if not decrease on CPU core amount). BUT... M3 Pro to M4 Pro was crazy huge. The camera, display, ports, everything are sooo different. Damn you apple I wish I could get M4 pro instead of M3 pro

I'm glad I didn't wait for the M4 and got the M3 Pro instead. Most important for me was battery life and performance. M3 Pro is perfect for what I was looking for and M4 upgrade is not worth it for me.

My 13 inch MacBook Pro with just the bottom tier M1 still absolutely rips. But I’m kind of interested in these. Just wish they weren’t 2k starting after taxes

If you're on M1, it's OK to upgrade. Not necessary depending on your needs. If you're on m2 or above, wait for m5

Would you say a brand new Macbook Pro 16 M1 Pro with 1tb of SSD for 1250 USD is a good deal? Keep in mind that in my country every mac gets taxed quite a bit so it originally cost 3500 so around 1/3 of the original price. It's the equivalent if it was sold for around 890USD in the US. I will mostly use it for music/audio production and my projects never go over 50-60 stems (both VSTS but mostly audio channels). I am upgrading from a base model MacBook Air M1.
