I am very excited. I only got into paradox games with CK3 because it was the first one where I didn't feel like I needed a degree in the game just to be able to understand the interface or to understand what happens when i press a button. I like this setting in history much more than any other and am looking forward to a deeper experience than what something like Total War Empire can offer. When this comes out we will truely be in the golden age of strategy games.

12 hundreds are from 1101 to 1200, but the startdate is probably some year between 1337 and 1356, as eu5 start in the 15th century

I tried getting into eu4 as a ck2,3 and Stellaris veteran..but between the UI,bloat and system overload I just couldn't get into it.

Hoping eu5 is a fresh start for me

I hope its like Imperator Rome with the pop system. If you waged a bad war you could take out your entire working class population, or hell even handicap the AI by continuously sieging and killing their armies thus handicapping their economy. That would make warfare more realistic, risky and fun! This would also make some Muslim countries like the Ottomans pretty fun, since they only recruited from their Muslim population, which is a big reason they removed the Dhimmi (religious protection/exception) law so they could recruit from the Christians and Jews too. So I wonder if we would get choices like that early.

Eheheh, I'm not sure if I like what I'm hearing. Definitely was hoping they'd make it less grnaular, and was hoping that it would be less complex and abstruse in general. Which to me would mean making it more like a boardgame; but giving it more of a simulation feel would not necessarily make it more complex, so that is something that will need to "wait and see" on. I do have a bit of hope since bloat and overcomplexity has been a criticism for a long, long time.

What worries me is the population system. During that time period, genocide and forced conversion were rampant. Taking VIC3 as an example, Paradox made it so that only accepted populations would assimilate into the main culture, which is unrealistic and preposterous even for the 20th century. So, if, let's say, these Sassanids don't convert, will I be able to purge them? Assimilation itself is genocide, where a dominant population forces others to adopt their ways or perish. I dislike how in newer titles, there's always this notion of, "Oh, did you know there's a better way, where everyone will be happy and dancing, and no one will be hurt? How couldn't anyone of that time have thought of that previously? " It's like they're trying to project our modern political values into a game to make it more mainstream. Even in HOI4 a very sucessful Paradox game they don't show how the FInal Solution was crippling the nazi logistic, nor it gives a debuff of some sorts. That's my view on the game so far.

The Eu4 AI is probably the best paradox AI at using different game mechanics

When they are talking about avoiding abstractions I think they are refering to how EU5 will have population instead of something abstract like development. So hopfully paradox will build the game on more realistic grounds, so probably no monarc points.

I actually tried EU4 after really getting into other Paradox games (Stellaris, CK3 and HOI4). Sadly, I'm kinda blind and unfortunately I found EU4 has the tiniest font ever so I kinda decided to wait for EU5😅 Which is sad cause I keep hearing a lot of nice things about this game. Plus there is the HUGE amount of dlcs lol. Oh well, I shall wait for EU5 👍

Even if this is the case, it will be what, 2032, when that game comes finally in a decent state?
2032 and 300$ later for EUV?
I'm not excited, no.

Very much looking forward to it. I love the time period, though I've never really given a proper try to EUIV thinking that the game now looks a bit dated compared to newest PDX-games that I'm used to play.

"mechanics should feel like they fit together" this is THE main issue I have with paradox games. They add so much DLC that just makes the game feel like 50 different mechanics sewn together hapharzardly
