The problem is that all the characters in the prequels are flat and uninteresting and that the dialogue is horrible.
As for the expertise of critics, let me remind you that the original trilogy even for people who had not watched all the Three Colours Trilogy by Kieslowski or the whole Kurosawa catalogue. If you need a degree in cinema history to enjoy the SW prequels, it goes without saying that something is horribly wrong.
Patrick Willems is totally innocent here. He was right about the crash zooms they only appear in the VFX shots which is his point, they dont match. The lightsource thing is also technically correct since the light saber light is digitally added in the prequels.
ОтветитьI don't get the dislikes. Many of the points here were very valid criticisms of the reviews he's mentioning.
ОтветитьI don't know why this video has so many dislikes. This video is extremely well-informed with a lot of great counterpoints against their reviews. It was also a very educational way to critique.
ОтветитьGeorge Lucas reacting to the hatred for the prequals be like: i guess you guys arent ready for that yet... but your kids are gonna love it
ОтветитьRLM really fell off and became irrelevant.
ОтветитьCritics oversimplify things down to “I like it” or “I don’t like it.” They think the discussion is just “is the movie good” or “is the movie bad.” But analysis is about much more than “quality.”It has to do with what is being done on purpose. Understanding the craft that went into it.
ОтветитьJust like with the force, there must be a balance with criticism. A balance between finding good things in the prequels, and seeing legitimate problems.
ОтветитьMaybe Lucas shot from "Left to Right" is because it's suppose to be a race, and since a race usually is a loop you want to show that they are moving in one direction.
I was halfway through writing this when you explained it, so good on you!😂
Anyone who mentions the “dunning Kruger” effect is exponentially more likely to have bad/shallow criticism. This video is no different.
ОтветитьThe people vs George Lucas aged terribly lol
ОтветитьModern media “critics” are some of the stupidest, most disgusting people out there
ОтветитьOmg, I never noticed the visual storytelling of Anakin, after being pushed off the race track by Sebulba and being flung into the air, being shown as moving right to left instead of left to right.
That is so cool.
The prequels suck, man
ОтветитьI love those video and hate prequel slander
ОтветитьAre u mentally ill? Or just 12 years old
ОтветитьAlso you lose the plot not even 2 minutes in when you honest to god state that criticism against the prequels isn’t legitimate! Like even if you think this slop is good they very obviously aren’t flawless (they suck ass)
ОтветитьSorry dude your cia funded psyop aren’t making those lousy ass movies good!
ОтветитьThat final clip of Jar Jar dubbed in French got a genuine laugh out of me. Such a well done character.
ОтветитьThey’re not wrong tho nerd
ОтветитьTell us how you really feel!
ОтветитьOn the thing with the titles. What I like to do is insert random monster names into Star Wars titles to make them into full on B-Movie titles. "The Phantom Menace" doesn't need it, already sounds like it and so does "Attack of the Clones" "Revenge of the Mummy" is a good one for Episode III, "A new Terror" works for IV, "The Zombie strikes Back" for V, "Return of Dracula" for VI, "The Swamp Monster Awakens" for VII, "The last Cannibal" for VIII and IX is "The rise of the Wolfman".
ОтветитьThis is the most pretentious, self aggrandising, smartass video i´ve seen on the internet in a long time. "yeah so this scene in the prequels looks like a scene from other older movie - ergo your argument (not even referencing the scene I cherrypicked) is wrong and you are stupid idiot" - only one example of the idiotic arguements seen in this video. I like prequels too, but this is whole another level of dicksucking Lucas. And raised arguments against prequels are "disprooved" by what exactly?: out of context scenes, straw-manning, cherry-picking, ah hominems, tu quoque and composition fallacies. Do i defend the critics mentioned in the video and their arguements - NO. Do i think Rick Worley provides even worse counter arguments and makes himself look even more annoying and pretenctious that people he argues against? -YES. Fact is - If you attack stupid arguement by equally stupid arguement -you get resultless discussion.
Ответитьthe Metaclorians ruined the Jedi lore because it turns their supernatural gifts from charisms given by a higher power to biological abilities thus making it a requirement to breed to keep the lineage alive.
Ответитьdamn why all the dislikes lol
ОтветитьFuck, this is so refreshing man...
ОтветитьLove the ending scene of your vid ;)
ОтветитьThe real order to see the movies is 1-2-3-4-5-6. Indeed.
I'm not even qualifying mylself as a star wars fan and I inderstood it recently while rewatch all the saga in this order.
"Fandom" in a general manner is a real plague for critical thinking and analysis
As tastes and opinions are objective, general consensus becomes the measure... general consensus is, any scene with a lightsaber in it is totally awesome, any scene with Jar Jar in it is totally lame, and any scene with political conversations in it is totally boring...but since you can't have a whole movie with only lightsabers and nothing else, we get what we got. It reflects the balance that is the essence of existence....you can't have light without dark, you can't have good without evil, and you can't have cool lightsaber scenes without boring unnecessary exposition and dumbass Jar Jar
ОтветитьIts incredible that at one point in my life i used to absolutely LOVE Stuckmann, RLM and all these other hack movie reviewers. Watching them now feels like I'm looking at a whiny teenager who's convinced of their own grandeur. It's embarassing.
If they are this bad at analyzing something they claim to LOVE, how bad are they with everything else?
The prequels are rubbish because they have none of the feel of the OT.
ОтветитьGetting the Dunning-Kruger Effect wrong in the first minutes isn’t a strong way to start.
ОтветитьSuprised there wasn't much rlm here compared to the others
ОтветитьCasual reminder that Chris Stuckmann wrote “Tell that to Zod’s snapped neck.”
ОтветитьJust the fact that he says “Jedis” rather than “Jedi” just proves how dumb he is
ОтветитьThey hated him because he was right.
ОтветитьReferences to other movies and big ideas dont make a good trilogy. The pequels had some good aspects but they were bad movies, broken on a fundemental level. But I'll go back and rewatch them, maybe i missed something.
ОтветитьI mean I get your points, then I rewatch the prequels and it's like eating a hospital food version of a burger. I mean its a burger so thats cool but it tastes bland.
ОтветитьRLM created the Prequel Criticisms and everyone else just vomited them out until they hit the ears of JJ Abrams. JJ proved to be a hack and Mike was wrong. Still, Best of the Worst is one of my favorite shows on the internet
ОтветитьBoth RLM and Chris Stuckmann's critiques of the Prequels still hold up just fine to this day. Sure there are some daft takes thrown in there - especially from RLM but they have a nearly 2 hour breakdown/analysis of ROTS alone which aside from the occasional goofiness brings up some very fair and reasoned points which cannot be defended. Whether it's the very convoluted and messy story structure, the wooden and at times hammy acting, Anakin's awful and forced character arc which just doesn't work and feels like a cop out, the huge daft plot holes, the very dated cgi which makes some of it look like from a PS2 era game at best due to the overreliance on CGI. I mean that's just a small sample to begin with but I could go on. The fact is they are incredibly flawed films which seem to have had a positive resurgence which just happened to co-incide with the generation of kids who saw them becoming adults now hyping them up because of nostalgia.
ОтветитьEven when I say the dialogue is really BAD, that the battle droids and Jar Jar Binks jokes are stupid and cringey, even with ALL that, I Never ever critics the filmography, storylines and over all genius ideas of Lucas, not to mention Lucas is the only person who actually seems to understand the force who has ever made movies💁♀️
ОтветитьIts sad how many people dismiss this video as a bunch of shallow references. In reality the people Rick tackles within the video are the ones who point and say "the prequels aren't resembling this other film therefore they're bad." Even if Stuckmann was the only guy ever to make a stupid comparison to another film it would be fair game for Rick to bring up other films so points/ideas can be elaborated on. When the Plinkett brings up a fencing sword fight in a non Star Wars film to say it has weight, he completely missed how the characters using lightsabers are like.... not normal humans and sometimes not even human. When viewing the gun and/or sword duel in Barry Lyndon, we don't complain about the lack of exaggerated body movement or lack of environment change. Other films have duels settled with one impactful blow. Star Wars has elaborate personal battles with space-wizard-samurai-knight-monks who can predict the short and long term actions of individuals. I wish the haters would realize Anakin and Padme are meant to be a mythological romance while Han and Leia (despite being a princess) are a contemporary romance. That doesn't mean there's no tangible love between Anakin and Padme but it does mean getting married within one week of meeting each other isn't crazy.
ОтветитьStuckman went to school for film. He knows what he's talking about. The prequels suck. They're just nostalgic now. They are laughably mediocre compared to the originals. Terrible script writing. Unnatural dialogue between characters. Almost robotic. It's the opposite of the dialogue in a Tarantino movie. Bad acting, which can be attributed to bad directing. The acting combined with the writing make the relationships seem rigid. Zero chemistry, for example, between Anikan and Padme in ROTS. And that can also be attributed to the writers not taking the time to add scenes that would provide background reference to strengthen the relationships. Between Anikan and Padme; Anikan and Obi-Wan; Anikan and the other Jedi. They wrote Anikan's character so badly. That's why people say he comes off as this whiney, moody teenager. You can literally see it. They don't take the time to add the little things that would strengthen Anikan's case for being a good guy. Like when Anikan and Obi-Wan make peace before Obi-Wan leaves for Utapau. That's a good moment. Not enough of that. Not any of that whatsoever in AOTC. And the reasoning for why Anikan turned is not lost on me, I understand it. Bad mentoring, not getting the guidance he needed. But the plotline of II and III are so rushed, and take too much time in things that are detrimental, lead people to have these criticisms. The humor isn't like in the OT. It's corny. Lots of one-liners in the third. The first is a straight-up kids movie, with really cheesy, bad humor. Made Anikan seem like simply a nice little boy. That just isn't going to cut it. You have to add the little things in there to make a character unique, make people like them. Basically, the prequels rely entirely on the advanced choreography for the duels and on CGI that now looks very dated.
