Oneida, N.Y.-- During the 100th anniversary celebration of the New York State Police at Troop D headquarters in Oneida Saturday, A special operations team complete with a daredevil K9, demonstrated a tactical jump from a helicopter.

Trooper Robert Turnbull and his partner, Diff (named after Trooper Arthur Diffendale, a NY State Trooper killed in 1951) work out of Oriskany and specialize in narcotics hunting and tracking. As only one of three helicopter rappelling dogs in the state, Diff is a pretty special Belgian Malinois.

Training begins immediately when the K9 officers join the force. The four year-old Diff and Turnbull started training on ramps, and gradually escalated their training higher and higher as they grew to trust each other, equipment and helicopter they would operate from.

" He loves it. He comes right to the edge," said Turnbull. "He trusts me, and because of that trust, he'd do anything with me."
