Great overview. However, in my experience, I’d like to add.
The unit has to be on for Tracks to be recorded, Waypoints are recorded with unit on or off.
Trackback feature doesn’t work well in the Forrest.
But works great when there is no tree canopy above.

My gps says "memory full" though I deleted all the routes, tracs and waypoint

The device is giving me a warning that the memory is full. And that I can not save any path points. Although I deleted all the coordinates and paths. What do I do? Device type etrex 10

No Geocaching for my place in India.

What a mess. Don't buy unless you can find personal instruction. All I wanted to do was to record a point and get back to it. I was able to do that with a $20 dollar unit. Not with this. There should be night courses you can take to learn how to use this, followed up by out-in-the-field instruction. Presently, it's just an expensive conversation piece for my coffee table.

Caution ! The latest eTrex is said to need Maps download and the amont of internal memory last a rôle on this one. There is also room for an SIM card below the batteries

My phone does all of this but way better

Thank you! I am going to be buying this. I was thinking of 20 or 30 etrex but way too expensive and I do not like all that technology like a color screen. I think a nice black and white lcd screen is a lot better.

Awesome overview. This is a great little GPS and to keep it that way make sure you do not store batteries in it for a length of time.

My last gps was returned- I could not get it to even go to 1 waypoint. After listening to this I suspect this would be the same.

I used to have an eTrex H and the one thing I didn't like was that it didn't have a good USB connection to download geocache information from my Mac (it had some serial cable that never worked with a USB adapter). With the eTrex 10, you can download using USB, right? Looks like it around the 9 minute mark of your video.

Hi, Firstly, thanks for this informative video.

I'm planning to go on a trekk of approximately 28km. Now the etrex-10 specification says it can store 1000 waypoints & 50 routes. So, if I turn-ON the auto track-recording at an interval of 0.01Km, will this device be able to record the complete track of 28km, or it will fail due to its restriction of limited storage capacity?

I'm not sure, but in the auto track-recording mode, with the interval set as 0.01Km, will it use one of its 1000 waypoints at an interval of every 0.01Km & will run-out after recording (1000*0.01)=10Km?

Can use this model to measure land area?

Cheap meat is for the dogs. I just bought and tried a Garmin Etrex 10. The good points are it's small and it takes AA batteries. The bad points are everything else. This thing is a piece of JUNK and terribly inaccurate. I set a way point on a vehicle in the driveway. I walked about 300 yards down the ally and tried to navigate back. It kept me pointed south right past our street and kept on heading south. The piece of crap is going straight back to the store it came from. I would just give it to the neighbours kids to play with but I'm scared it might get them lost not be able to get back home !
