Watch the Best Shoe Shiners Battle it Out! | 2024 U.S. Shoe Shining Competition | Kirby Allison

Watch three shoe shine specialists compete against each other to see who can create the best mirror shine in just TWENTY MINUTES at the 2024 U.S. Shoeshine Competition! This exciting event was held in New York City in October 2024 as part of the New York Super Trunk Show, an event that attracted shoe and style aficionados from all over the country to indulge in their shared passion for leather dress shoes and classic style.

Affiliated with the London Super Trunk Show and the World Championships of Shoeshining held each year in London, this was the second year for a shoe shine competition to be held in the United States. The three finalists, selected from over 20 entrants, were given just twenty minutes to transform a totally new, unpolished pair of shoes into a masterpiece of style and class.

Both the New York Super Trunk Show and the London Super Trunk Show, along with all affiliated events, are organized by Jesper Ingevaldsson of Shoe Gazing Blog (@shoegazingblog), Justin FitzPatrick of The Shoe Snob (@theshoesnob_official), and Kirby Allison (@kirbyallison).

With a both a mom and dad with big interest in quality shoes and caring for them, it was a given for Hang Li to get his eyes open for this. He’s a hobby shoe shiner that certainly knows his stuff, which his entry is evident off. A split toe derby with a shine that enhances the beauty of the shoes, with not least superbly shined heels. His everyday work is as a Operation Program Manager in the manufacturing industry.

🔸 Caleb Malinowski (Dallas, TX) @calebmali
The only American who’ve made it to the final of the world shoe shining champs, back in 2019, now gives it a go in the US contest. His entry showcase a great, even and well-executed shine on a pair of wingtips. Caleb Malinowski started off as an amateur shoe shine enthusiast, for some years he worked for Kirby Allison and shined shoes there professionally, he’s since worked in menswear stores and continued to run a shoe shine service on the side.

🔸 Ray Chen (Stony Brook, NY) @rcshoeprojects
He’s a senior at Stony Brook University, and has a big menswear interest, where his shoe shine journey started with his father shining his first pair of dress shoes from Allen Edmonds, and learning him the basics, from there it has turned into a passion.
