Making Virtual Instruments Ep. 1: Recording Jane's Jouhikko

In the first episode of a series, I'm recording the sound of a jouhikko, a traditional Finnish instrument. It's similar to tagelharpa/talharpa/stråkharpa. Jouhikko is a three-stringed bowed lyre, and in this case, the strings are made of gut.

I captured long, short/staccato, pizzicato, and tremolo notes. The recording space is a tsasouna (or eukterion), an Orthodox house of prayer. It's located in Kalajoki, Finland. The player is Jane Ilmola, and her jouhikko is around 17 years old.
