An explanation of the term "Butch" geared toward folks who already have a basic understanding of gender identity, gender expression, and LGBTQ+ terminology. For those that need a little more context see below.
Terminology Used In This Video:
NB = Non-Binary (Identify as neither male nor female, or as "either or"). They often identify with "They/Them" Pronouns, although not exclusively.
GNC = Gender Non-Conforming (Can identify as male or female. Cisgender* Transgender, or Non-Binary). Someone who does not conform to traditional gender norms and appearances to the sex or gender they identify as).
*Cisgender refers to a person who's gender identity matches their sex assigned at birth.
Trans = Abbreviation of "Transgender". This is someone who was assigned a sex/gender at birth (based on anatomy), that they do not identify as.
Transmasculine = On the Transgender Spectrum but they do not meet the exact definition of or identify with the Transgender identity. This is someone who was AFAB (Assigned Female AT Birth) who is masculine in appearance and identity, but do not necessarily identify as male.
MOC = Masculine Of Center. If gender is being conceptualized as a spectrum that goes from Feminine to Masculine, the people on the masculine side of the spectrum are "masculine of center".
Transgender men = Men who were AFAB (Assigned Female At Birth). They are men.
Transgender women = Women who were AMAB (Assigned Male At Birth). They are women.
Lesbians = Women who exclusively have sexual and romantic relationships with other women.
Queer Women = Women who do not exclusively have sexual and romantic relationships with women, but who identify as non-heterosexual. These folks are varied. This is a very nuanced term and not all LGBTQ+ folks embrace it.
