I baked the cake at 140 C for 74 min in 8 inch pan and there was quite a bit of crack on top. What can I do to avoid the cracks?

ОтветитьHi, I have decided to make this for Mothers Day. Started tonight and my baterries have gone in my scales. Have fruit mixture done now sat waiting until tommorow until i can get some more batteries. Will it be ok. Using less dates and added cranberrries and apricots. Using ginger jam underneat marzipan then ice cake. 25 yrs i had these scales since i was 20 now 51 so can't complain never changed batteries what a time to go though. Hope it turns out ok tommorow now

ОтветитьI made this cake a few days before Christmas and finished off the last piece today. Ingredients for making a second one are on counter in my kitchen at this very moment. The flavors of this cake take me back to my childhood when my favorite aunt always made fruitcake for the holidays. No one in the family carried on that tradition after her generation was gone. In the intervening years I occasionally resorted to buying fruitcake when the craving for it hit. I found this easy to make (except for the 48 hours of wait time before tasting it!). I will never eat store bought fruitcake again.

ОтветитьI totally understand mk you not using alcohol in your recipe. I think it awesome your cake. I tweaked As a born and bred Catholic I boiled the fruits in 1/2 orange juice and 1/2 inbrandy. The end result was super.

ОтветитьI switched my plum recipe to this method... And that was an utter failure. The brushing of orange juice gave an intense bitter taste. I don't recommend this recipe at all.😢
