Cambodia has a vibe to it but it takes a certain kind of person to want to live there. Unless you're a very seasoned world traveller, it'd likely be too much. If you're interested in living there, I would 100% suggest a short visit before making any kind of commitment.
ОтветитьWe like Phnom Penh a lot. First visited 2015, in 2023, wow there was lots of new construction. Singapore, Japanese, South Korean investment though you only hear of the Chinese. The area south of Preah Sihanouk Blvd (~ Brown Coffee Roastery) has gone upscale, international restaurants and boutiques. It is a city to explore on foot to find gems. If you liked Bangkok 40 years ago...
ОтветитьExcellent info! ❤
ОтветитьHow safe is there?
ОтветитьThere is no ready in hell my wife would go there. She's north Thai/chinese and looks down on the surrounding countries. Doesn't look that good for me either. Not worried about budget as we are looking at starting a private equity investment company with offices in Sydney, KL and possibly Chiang Rai. So money is not a Problem..
ОтветитьPristine cash? Should I just print some out?
ОтветитьThank you for these very detailed tours. I hope to use your expertise when it is my time to travel.
ОтветитьI clicked the link for 2 of your books, but never got the e-mail from you to prove I have a verified e-mail???
Ответитьare you sure it's not $853.72?
ОтветитьIt is not enough to talk about the cost of food, apartments, etc. The two most important aspects of living / retiring in another country are taxes and visas. These have to be addressed first.
ОтветитьHi Dan. I've been living in Siem Reap for over four months now. I live on the second floor of a Khmer wood house. For two hundred dollars a month, I get more than 100 sq m (1000 sq ft) and right on the river! The downside is that it is not "western standard". The interior feels more like a cottage and it is both noisier and more smokey than typical. I love it here though and many thanks to you and your videos for helping me to retire early on the cheap (around $800/month)!
ОтветитьSome travelers are saying there is a Risk of being put in overcrowded violent prison for no reason due to the Dangerous corruption here, and no help from Your embassy too.
I loved Cambodia until I heard these stories.
Try to Help me forget them so I can go back there.
My name is also Vagabond. Filter refill for $5/month? If it's a charcoal filter, just reverse flush (run it under water) it in the opposite direction, so the contaminants gets flush out. You could use it INDEFINITELY. That's what we did in the Air Force (but with air), when we were making liquid oxygen (LOX) & liquid nitrogen (LIN). No need to change out the filter. It's a scam by Brita. I have a Brita water filter too, in the states. Just reverse flush it every few months.
ОтветитьWhat about medical and hospitals
ОтветитьI enjoyed it but kampong is better and safe great little town❤
ОтветитьHey Dan, great video. I do like the sound quality 👍👍.
Can't wait until you two come over and visit Cambodia again..
Thanks for the videos 😊
$15 for phone sim card and minutes/ data is a rip off. Should be about $5 or 6.
ОтветитьMe and my GF live in PP on $2000-$2200. We live just fine. 1 bedroom on 20th floor with view of the river from the all windows. Roof top pool and a gym. One year old building. Go out to eat regularly. Have a new scooter. Travel within the country easily. Kep/kampot/sihhonoukville.
ОтветитьSpent three weeks in the country . Could totally see myself living there.
Ответить854$ pro Monat! NO WAY, NEVER!
I live in🇰🇭
HEY GUY'S WOW! WHAT BIG DIFFERENCE PHENOM PENH CAMBODIA FROM NOVEMBER 2019, AND WHAT I SEE NOW, WHAT BIG DIFFERENCE WHEN I WAS THERE PAILS OF GARBAGE EVERY WITH RATS THE SIZE OF CATS, PHENOM PENH, FROM YOUR FEBRUARY 2025, IS QUITE A BIG DIFFERENCE, WISHING BOTH THE VERY BEST ALWAYS.
ОтветитьI wonder why $854 and not for example 850 or 900
ОтветитьDan, do you think Phnom Penh is a more liveable city now compared to 5 years ago?
ОтветитьNice report Dan, I refer to our Filipino clothes line as our "solar clothes dryer"
ОтветитьI am not sure why anyone would like to live in Cambodia to save very little over Vietnam. I am in Da Nang and the last three months have only spent $650 usd and I can walk to the beach in 8 minutes, the only place in Cambodia that has a beach was ruined by the Chinese! Check my budget! I have amended it to include $55 usd for the 90 day visa run that costs $160 So the only advantage of Cambodia is the one-year visa that will cost you half of what the Vietnam Visa Runs would cost.
My January Living Expenses
Visa run reserve 1,375.000 ($55 usd)
Rent 6,000,000 *
Electric – Water 724,000 (lower in the winter, no A/C)
Food 3,633,000
Restaurants 1,630,000
Beer 1,375.000
Transportation 400,000
Laundry 210,000
Phone 120,000 *
Drinking water 60,000 *
Haircut 80,000 *
Misc 722,000
Total 16,349,000d 655.88 usd
Rent, health insurance. That's $400 already gone! Living on $500 a month...that's $16 a day! You won't even get by in Cambodia with that. Fact!
ОтветитьBaaaam! Right on target.. As far as updating information. Read my mind.. Thank you for the update!!
ОтветитьThe one negative about Cambodia , is the cost of electricity , So if your apartment has a old style split system air conditioner , and you use it regularly , say 12 hours a day , you will have a significant electricity bill
ОтветитьNo way anybody can do it f0r less than 854.76 a month.
Ответитьmetfone unlocked simcard is 1$ plus you put in 60 gb of data for 6 $.phnom penn ism much more expensive as siem reap.i pay here 200$ for my bungalow with 2 bdr and little private garden wifi and water indluded. my elex is between 80 and 110$ a month (cold season to hot season)retirement visa is around 300$ a year so 25$ a month.
Ответитьsurprised Cambodia is so high at 1800 to 3500 per month. Guess it goes to show you that SE Asia is getting more and more expensive.
ОтветитьWith that money you will create a poor life there. Cambodia is wunderful but much more expensive as Thailand or Eastern Europe.
ОтветитьWhat if Paul Potts comes back? I wear eye glasses. Paul hates those
ОтветитьMe thinketh the European., wiggle and the Asian........wobble!@!?😉😁😅😅😅
ОтветитьAll these gringos have to understand, there is a reason why the country is cheap AF, wait until you have to use the institutions of that country and there you will understand why is so cheap.
ОтветитьSchlimme Stimme
ОтветитьWell done very good information
ОтветитьNicht mal tot möchte ich hier über‘n Zaun hängen - wie verzweifelt muss man sein, um sich in Cambodia niederzulassen?
ОтветитьCambodia is 50% more expensive then Thailand in all aspects.Women,Food,Rents, Period.Only Beer is cheaper and I don't drink Alcohol.
ОтветитьYou need at least 2500 US dollars per month to live anywhere in Asia.
Ответитьi'd like to retire in my state, california, where i live..invest in stocks long term 25 years then retire with $700k
ОтветитьTY for the vid you two!
Loved Siem Reap but need to know if hospitals in Phnom Penh are significantly better or not.
We live in Thailand but the new dual taxation and bad air quality will make us leave.
Do you need an international license to rent moto there?
ОтветитьTypical cost of single expat living in Siem Reap is around $1,000-$1200/month, all in, and I don’t skimp on anything. I have the retirement visa, which gives me multiple entry for 12 months.
Ответить2500 usd a month is the LEAST amount you can live on in Phnom Penh. You want to LIVE.....not just survive.
ОтветитьJust gained another subscriber. Love that you’re so informative.
ОтветитьCould US citizens renew a US passport in cambodia at a US embassy?
Ответить
