Awesome thank you for sharing...helpful tips...
ОтветитьAll the tops are great in saleds.
ОтветитьWhere's your how to video? This is after the fact!
ОтветитьWhat can you do with the greens that you cut off the onions?
ОтветитьCutting them this close to maturity will stress your onions and may stop growing all together my friend
ОтветитьAre you still growing your onions this way? I find this method very interesting and would like to try it 😊
ОтветитьI’m going to try this this year my red onions are up about 5 inches here in ohio
ОтветитьHmmm ... Interesting and informative video as usual, but I was thinking there are a lot of "maybe's" in gardening. Like, maybe if you do this, your crop will be bigger, healthier, tastier, etc.
As much as possible, I don't like doing things when I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. I think I'll give this a try, but instead of trimming my entire onion crop, I'll just do half of them. This should be a simple and conclusive experiment. Since I'm cheap and lazy, I'm kinda hoping there will be no difference.
Many thanks for posting these videos. Cheers.
Really like the thin and basic growing area! Very smart.
ОтветитьGreat looking onions. Did you grow them from seed, starts or sets? Whats your soil mix?
ОтветитьDo you plant from seed? Or do you plant from transplant? Where do you get them from and what was the name of it?
ОтветитьTo who it may concern : I was a onion producer 45 year's there is nothing wrong with those onion top's falling over because you think there to tall ! That is the nature of the plant tell tail sign that it's soon to be ready for harvest ! That's a beatiful crop you raised ! We used to harvest when half the top's had fallen. Re: Gil Chacon Ca.
Ответитьlooks ready pick. eat baseball size ones. put carrots and parsnips goat rost.
ОтветитьThose Are Not soft ball size-!!!!..
Onions LOVE water.. usually grown comercially in " muck fields", low rich wet soil....more water.... more water
I was taught that if you bend the stalks down and pinch them then your onion will get larger
ОтветитьBeautiful onions. What type of soil do they like. Also you should Dehydrate the tops to use in soups, or purée and freeze for soups.
ОтветитьI bet you could smell the onion juice on ya... for ages after ‘Topping’ them. I know, because I did some this week..! The green storks that you cut off, are great to use for stews & soups..! ::Peace::🕊❤️
Ответитьdo you grow onions from other onion pieces like potatoes ?
ОтветитьLol I always give my plants a haircut! Despite what some people may think, they love it!
ОтветитьGreat info!
ОтветитьDoesn’t show how to grow.
ОтветитьDry the tops and grind them into onion powder.
ОтветитьChop the greens up and freeze them for cooking. 🇨🇦
ОтветитьThose are some great looking onions! 👍
ОтветитьThey look beautiful 😍
ОтветитьIf you want beautiful flowering onions from an onion, plant the whole thing about 6 inches under the ground. They then can grow up to 5 foot tall and if you plant them along a chain-link fence, you can save them fro the wind if you plant them really close to the plant! Or plant them close up to your house in semi-shade to full sun After first year, the big onions will need to be replanted deep again. But, you can get bulbets from the original bulb/onion and then plant them! I've had giant white and purple onion plants for 19 years at my home and almost 15 years at my mom's and have had seeds that spread to other places I didn't even plant them! Onions are so awesome and I like to see how people grow theirs! Here is the funny thing though...I don't like onions in food! But I love the flowers they create! I do know though that if you let the onion go from year to year, the original will not be that edible for taste. At least what onion lovers for the taste tell me! Happy Gardening!
ОтветитьThis is so awesome
Ответитьdid you stop the onion growing? care of updates in experience and knowledge? thanks
ОтветитьStill don’t believe this is right...doesn’t make sense. Test was not conducted correctly, at all. Do not do this.
ОтветитьYou said foliage wrong, (foly edge) :)
ОтветитьThat some small softballs lol
ОтветитьMitleiter is another chemical fertilizer. The reason for the abundance of green is too much nitrogen. Growing in compost is much better and healthier. Check out the videos of Charles Dowding.
ОтветитьI will try that.
ОтветитьEvery onion leaf corresponds to a ring in the onion. When you cut back the leaves, it forces new leaves to come out, and that increases the overall number of rings in the onion, increasing its size. This will not work if the plants are not thriving, though.
ОтветитьCan you explain how you made your raise bed and what size onion you planted? Thank you and. god bless!
ОтветитьDo u plant the onions above the ground?
ОтветитьThe whole trimming onion tops will grow larger bulbs is in fact a myth. In fact, each leaf on an onion is a ring around the bulb. A perfect onion has 13 leaves. The larger you can grow the tops and the more tops you can grow the better. This is because when the the onion starts its bulbing process, all the carbohydrates from the green tops go to making the onion bulb. You grew some great onions because you had some giant green tops and a lot of leaves. They look yummy.
ОтветитьI like the watering setup.
ОтветитьVery beautifull onions! I've heard that too much nitrogen can cause big foliage. You might be able to sabe on nitrogen...
ОтветитьHow are you planting them? Seeds or sets? How deep? What soil amendments are you adding ahead of planting? What’s your fertilizer routine? When do you plant? When do you harvest? I’d assume you’re in Utah? What general area?
Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I’m trying to improve my onion yield. TIA!
best part, the green part of the onions are delicious.
ОтветитьDon't throw away the stocks. You can cut them up and dehydrate them then grind them up to make onion powder.
ОтветитьDoes growing larger onions affect the nutrition density?
ОтветитьWhat kind of onion seeds and where did you get them? If you don't mind me asking. Thank you.
ОтветитьNo info about seeding date your zone feeding watering?
ОтветитьCan you eat the leaves?
ОтветитьI cut them back. I also chop them up and put them in sandwich size freezer bags and lay them on a sheet pan in the freezer. That makes them freeze flat for easy storage, I use them to cook with throughout the year.
Ответитьthe problem with cutting back all leaves is that the plant will start to wilt. The best approach is to cut back only the leaves that would have folded or the dead leaves lateral to the ground.
