@MultiCathy1 this is one of those you either love it or hate it films..lol
ОтветитьHey, Craig! I didn't know this Hamlet oO I'll try to watch it! Thanks for this upload, my dear :D
Ответитьthis version totally sucks. Ethan Hawke is not good for this role. The only good parts of this production are: 1 - Hamlet's soliloquies done as videophone diaries. Brilliant modernization (just too bad Hawke is unconvincing) 2 - Julia Stiles' drugged-up Ophelia -wow! and 3. Bill Murray as the best Polonius ever - who knew!?
Ответить@MrSKyle6 I liked Hawke so much in this role that me wonder whether Hamlet should really be younger than 30 years old as some people say...
ОтветитьThe director here is awful. But Bill Murray is great.
ОтветитьThe director is Michael Almereyda not Ethan Hawke.
Ответить@Attritive never said he directed it, but I guess it sounded that way, so I changed the description, thanks!
ОтветитьI played Polonius in a 5th grade play...Good times, lol.
Ответитьthis director BLOWS
ОтветитьGreat casting! Terrible time setting that put Hamlet in.
ОтветитьSaw this film when it came out. Bill's performance is literally the only thing I remember of it. And it was this exact scene I was looking for. Thanks for uploading it!
Ответитьimagine if everyone still talked like this
ОтветитьThis is my favorite Hamlet and Bill Murray my favorite Polonius. Outstanding performance by Murray.
ОтветитьI was just thinking that and then scrolled down and saw your comment haha.
ОтветитьYeah, the camera angle is horrible and the director didn't seem to give anyone any actual /direction/. The whole scene seems like the director just let Bill Murray 'do his thing'.
ОтветитьSomeone responded to a comment I left just now, never noticed your comment here. The clip is a good choice for Bill Murray, and I wish he did more serious roles. I just hate the movie and the director. Campbell Scott and Kenneth Branagh each did a much better job at casting and directing, and neither made the mistake of 'modernizing' the story.
ОтветитьWow...
ОтветитьDespite the fact that there are many wonderful people in the cast and an infinite number of artistic possibilities, this has to be the single worst adaptation of Hamlet made thus far.
ОтветитьIt's hard for me to take Bill Murray seriously in a serious role. I always think of Caddyshack. But nonetheless, he does very well. It shows that he is not a one-role actor, like many of Hollywood's 'greats'.
ОтветитьYeah, but the idea that Polonius is a sympathetic character (as Bill Murray always is) and a loving dad is such a great thing - it makes Hamlet's killing of him that much more awful (hey, NOBODY kills Bill Murray!) and Hamlet less sympathetic. I've gotten used to seeing Polonius as a pompous fool that more or less got what he had coming. Murray made me see it in a new, more accurate, light. I think it's pretty good.
Ответитьthis is what happens when Venkman looks at the trap.
ОтветитьNot the best rendition, but Bill Murray in this is just awesome!
Ответитьwhat a happy accident to find this rendition of the polonius scene...awesome except for julia stiles who was in every movie for about 4 years for no reason whatsoever. seems like the sandmen from logan's run caught up with her though and took her to carosel where she belongs..sorry to be a hater but i've always thought she's the worst
ОтветитьBIll Murray doing Shakespeare: he truly can pull off anything!
ОтветитьThe direction in this movie is shit.
ОтветитьI remember just cringing the first time I saw this.
Ответитьyeah spot on as polonius.
ОтветитьDon't you mean this movie is crap?
ОтветитьI find it funny watching a grown man, in modern day, refer to his dad as "my lord"
ОтветитьI'm doing this for my monologue for my drama class. Probably gonna fuck it up as I always do but wish me luck
ОтветитьI thought Bill Murray as Polonius would be casting genius! But it was the opposite, so disappointing....
ОтветитьExcellent
ОтветитьGarfield gives advice to the Storm King.
ОтветитьBrilliant! 😀
ОтветитьThe film - and Bill Murray’s performance in it - is better than this clip would suggest. In the context of the film the approach you see here with the awkaward conversational approach to the language and the way the shots are framed is of a piece with the overall mood of the movie. It’s perhaps more curiosity than masterpiece but it’s got something to say both about the original play and how technology and corporate greed affect our lives.
ОтветитьHe did a great job acting as me 😎
ОтветитьI think Bill Murray is great, but I can't buy him as Polonius. :P
Ответить"Borrowing dulls the edges of husbandry."
as if these twits could edit shakespeare
Ok thats it im putting this language even further than 6 feet under
ОтветитьI think this scene brilliantly captures how a dad can be a pretentious blowhard AND actually love his kids. The director here leverages Murray's likeability to the hilt. Liev Schreiber also great (I saw him OWN Iago at the Public Theater)--he knows dad is just spouting mostly windy crapola...but at the end, with "To thine ownself be true," they genuinely connect, despite the hatred the son has for how much dad has sold out. Great scene.
ОтветитьIf you were to look up "helicopter parent" in a dictionary you'd probably find Polonius.
ОтветитьIt's a shame they did not attempt to modernize the English along with the setting. Kind of lazy. It's easy to change the setting since, well, this is today. But modernizing the English takes some actual effort.
ОтветитьSuperb.
ОтветитьTo thyine own self be true…. Then thoust never be false to any man.
Best advice.
OMG EEE
ОтветитьBased FRFR
Ответитьwowee
ОтветитьThe way the Bill Murray effortlessly turns Polonius from a complete helicopter parent into an actual intelligent dude is superb.
