I always felt Yoda and NASA philosophy was wrong. Yoda said Do or Do Not. There is no try. NASA said failure is not an option. If risk could be eliminated they would have eliminated risk. There is no guarantee of anything therefore Failure is always possible. Yoda was wrong for the same reason. You can only try. You cannot guarantee success. Just do you best.

I would have given a lot to be a part of the generation that first went to space, but I think it's pretty cool to be a part of the "Artemis Generation" (as NASA is calling it) as well. We are capable of doing amazing things. Don't take it for granted or diminish the sacrifice of the lives, American, Soviet, and otherwise, lost in the endeavor. Some people think we aren't capable of such feats. Some people would forget our ingenuity in the face of perceived dangers and say there's something sinister behind it all. To them I'd have to say that the truth is simultaneously more mundane and amazing than some big plot by alien overlords or whoever you think is behind it.

We went, and now we are going back, and beyond. We would have stayed if the bored public hadn't stopped caring and the politicians hadn't got their grubby little fingers in everything, like they always do. I doubt they even washed their hands first. Ad astra per aspera. To the stars through adversity, even when that adversity is bored, doubting public and politicians who would rather line their pockets than see us grow and explore.

Irony how the narrator is Scott Glenn, who played Al Shepard in The Right Stuff.

I was 5 years, 5 months and 8 days old, when I watched John Glenn's Friendship 7 launch. There was a little (20") black and white TV in my parent's bedroom. My brother and I where fully dressed in our winter clothing, to go to school. I will never forget it! I followed the entire space program from that day on. Terrific documentary! Thank you Gene Kranz!

As much as the astronauts were a breed apart, it also takes a special sort of individual to "take responsibility for the lives of the astronauts, the success of the mission and doing it all in full view of the World.".

Pity these folks were not still around when the Columbia shuttle was allowed to burn on reentry….. in spite of still having another week of supplies. Without giving the astronauts, families time to spend time with their families/ children ‘just in case’…

I love this video . I also respect the opinions of these wonderful adventurers! The forming of nasa and ground control and the fact it was televised. Even when the navy launches were a disaster . Also live on television. Let us not forget. The Russians achieved space flight in so many ways before the shepherd flight . Hitting the moon. Photographs from the dark side of the moon. All this was accomplished by ground control. By systems controlled from the ground. The Americans took control center many steps further. But suggest that all began with Chris and others? Is typical American politics. You guys deserve all the credit and respect from what you achieved. But taking credit from others that were way in advance from you guys? Insults your credibility. Sadly,

These aren’t really classics. They’re very good though.

But I’m and probably just going to stick with my big box Deluxe Memory Man and my DD-6. I got them new and they’ve been fine for 20+ years.

I have the nano Big Muff. Used to have one of the old big box black and white style for a while but it’s toasted. The nano is great if you don’t have the older one handy you bought new 20 - 25 years ago.

Gene Kranz is one of those modern day heroes in NASA's entourage of engineers and creative thinkers who, in an age when technology and human ambition clash with what's never been done... and what's possible, was able to pull off one of the greatest engineering feats in human history. Not too many people have that kind of courage.

I will never agree that the mission control after Apollo program is the same. The mission control went to he'll in a hand basket after apollo. The DEI was the worse thing that sank nasa. I know and standby this statement. There will never be a woman, and I say never that can stand in those shoes.

The amount of knowledge, intelligence, leadership and pure courage it must require to be a flight director is mind boggling. I have so much respect for the men who held that position and for all those at Mission Control who made it a team effort. Esp getting Apollo 13 back safe and sound. How the heat shied wasn’t damaged in the oxygen tank explosion is pure luck and they had luck. Also Jim Lovelll doing those burns so beautifully and Fred and Jack with their courage and kmowledge. Esp one being so sick. Jack survived Apollo 13 only to die of cancer a decade or so later.
