The boost converter or step-up converter is a really cool circuit that takes a smaller voltage and “boosts” it to a larger voltage. When I first learned about it, I was blown by the fact that it actually works. It’s almost like making something out of nothing, though you realize it does not violate any laws. They are essential for generating high voltages in applications such as cars where space is limited and less battery cells are necessary. If you understand how the buck converter works, then conceptually, the boost converter is quite similar.
