This really is what everyone needs to be talking about. It's sad amusing that immediately following Bernie losing an election where he was publicly shamed for admitting that anything good could be done by a communist government we enter a global pandemic where communist governments are topping some of the wealthiest capitalist nations in the world at basic health policy and crisis management. Also, the democratic structures are so key. The absence of them is why Bernie could never win in the US. Because we don't have the organizational capacity to backup our talk. There has to be a long slow struggle to build working class organizations (tenant unions, unions, co-ops, workers councils, federations of unions, etc). I have become firmly convinced that we will never see any leftist success of any real size until there are workers councils in America that are democratic, supported by local people and which work against and not for the Democratic Party. This kind of stuff is not "lower stakes" than the presidential election like Amber Frost said. It's longer term but in some ways more important than electing a nice guy president because we all know he would disappoint us and that disappointment could only be limited by our ability to limit his options through pressure.

We really need to stop apologizing for communism. I say that someone whose more of a syndicalist than an ML. The idea that we can trick people into supporting socialism by wrapping it in patriotism (kyle kulinski), misleading them about where we are coming from and not standing up for the legacy of socialism is wishful thinking and a move to the right couched in practicality rationalizations. It's also a betrayal of people in the global south who believe what we believe and are doing good work right now as our governments wage war against them. We owe it to our comrades in the global south and we owe it to the people who came before us to defend what positive things came out of 20th century marxism. Obviously we don't need to be brainwashed tankies who see CIA plots under their beds. If we do it actually undercuts our arguments more. If we show that we know the imperfections and errors of communism that is the first step to most north americans raised in our propaganda mills to think that we can even begin to have a conversation.
