Excellent overview as usual.
As a 51 yr old hard gainer,I've found it easier to gain fat as I age, but I've also found it easier to gain muscle.
Stress and getting enough sleep were and continue to be challenges for me,but a solid 3 months in the gym has me back to 75% of my max that I had at 27!
Always persist,you WILL see improvements!!!!!!!!!!!

You're right about everything here, including sleep. I'm getting more of it, so the stress is melting away. Amazing info!💪👍

Nice video thanks. A little off topic, but your gains on your chest are very good, do you have a video on how you maintain this?

Agree with everything you said in this video Lawrence. Been trying to tell a few close friends these things. I’ll like this video to them so they hear from others mouths. Keep up the great work 💪🏾👊🏾👍🏾

Stress is bad for us and our jobs often cause it. I have lost sleep over it. Ugh!

Spot on Laurence the we all feel like hard gainers at some point with me it's usually the stress of work which tends to add up to less sleep MINT

I "used to be " a hard gainer in my late teens/early twenties, but once I passed thirty I can gain weight just by looking at food! :) Great video Laurence, informative as always!

In his book "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" the Japanese writer Haruki Murakami had an interesting take on this mindset you mention of those of us who find it easy to gain weight thinking those who can stay thin no matter what have won the genetic lottery.

He reflected that his wife is of the latter type and can eat desserts without any effect whereas he, despite being an enthusiastic runner, cannot.

He looked at the glass half-full by suggesting that those who are naturally thin tend not to take any measures (training) as they get older to maintain fitness or muscle. They are after all "thin, fit and healthy". We others though must do something to maintain at least some semblance of health, so nature has "blessed" us with a need to do so.

I am 50. Was fit as a youth and then at 19 I started to smoke. (Like a idiot) had lots going on at the time Inc homelessness. Then in 2010 I ballooned to 18 stone. And at 5ft7 not a great idea. I must have been body dysmorphic as I honestly didn't realise just how fat I was. Well not until I saw photos and developed type 2 diabetes. Was suicidally depressed and as I have children knew I had to do something. I cut out bad food and weight starred to come off. Along with some gym. In 2016 my long term wife died and the gym stopped. I maintained my weight but deep depression set in and loss of sleep has me losing muscle mass so I hope to gain some education from ur vids and try regain my sanity fully along with my health for my kids sake and of course my own. Ur in great shape and from the UK I thank u for the total common sense that you speak. I am 11 stone 4llb now. Happy with that weight but not the loss of muscle. Have only recently come across ur vids and love them. I have pre diabetic sugar levels now and once again thank you and thankful that I come across you. 🖒

love it :) .... great video Lawrence :) great dialog great sound visuals as usual and a great topic I'm a hard gainer on my weaknesses but I'm improving tht now and trying to work more on what I cant do rather than what I can :) u can reach plateo working on what we are already good at changing and working on our weaknesses is key to help gains :) I also find it hard to eat right and eat enough I get full fairly easy so for me to get all I need I struggle with that but consistency will win but I do need to try eat more carbs more protein to help gain muscle :)

I think there is always something to be done to minimise being a hard gainer. There is of course some things we can't change like insertions and muscle shape to a certain degree, but muscle can always be gained!

How can a hard gainer, who has long and lean muscle, (I’m 6’4 ) build muscle? Should we just be satisfied with tone and strength, which isn’t bad.

GREAT FRICKIN VIDEO!!! I fell into the "instant gratification" group. I wanna be bigger/stronger/look more athletic, NOW! ...that was my OLD mindset. When I started this transformation at 50, I just told myself, take your time. It's going to be for the rest of my life. I don't really weigh myself, but rather train by the way I'm feeling, or the way the mirror is telling me to train! ....still gotta work on the whole "sleep" thing though...I don't get enough of that!! As usual Lawrence: GREAT INFO!! 👍💪💪💪

Another great contribution, Laurence.
A purposeful handling of stress and the quality of sleep (less the length) are decisive criteria, I agree.
This also applies to mental well-being.
Best regards and so on.

What you are presenting is very relevant to many in our age group. Many have a misconception that we let go when we hit a certain life stage. But lifespan is now longer and with aging, we need to continue to build ourselves even more so.

I am currently having a hard time with finding information about 3x12 vs 4x12 rep since i am using 4x12 for awhile but i found my workout very long and i was wondering if 3x12 would have a real impact on my progress? Note that i don't want to become big i just want to be as fit as a 55 years old can be.

I can gain weight no problem but I struggle to put any muscle on. I can lean down but look skinny.

I have a good appetite and can eat a lot but if I bulk I just get skinny fat.
