Natural mosquito repellent using essential oils or vanilla

I used 2 OZ of organic vanilla in 6 oz water, sugar free extract , sprayed it on legs and within 5 minutes Mosquito
bites were all over my legs , back to deep woods off for me

How can i get them out of my home? They are annoying and they act like they know they people are trying to get rid of them. I set traps for them all the time and they avoid the traps.
