Is there a reason why people don't just remove the crankset from a regular bike? So much less expensive.

I don't agree with your review of the Strider. My son has a Strider and the issues you mention with the frame not being durable, the bolt scratching, foot rest being not needed - I disagree.

Firstly - We have never had any issues with this bike, quite a few of the other bikes don't even look like a proper bike would, why would I send my child out to ride a wooden bike or a bike that is made from a fibre that I wouldn't make an adult bike out of?

Secondly I have felt the difference in manoeuverabilty and weight with for example the FirstBike, which feels horribly heavy and clunky compared to the Strider. My son has ridden both and he had distinctly less free movement on the FirstBike v the Strider. The FirstBike

Thirdly - I agree with Dorothy - the Strider does offer the pneumatic tyres but there have been zero issues with learning to ride on the non-puncture tyres provided by Strider. My son picked up his bike 3 months ago and is now just about ready for a pedal bike (he is 3.5 years old). In fact given what I have seen of the FirstBike in person I would never buy one.

Fourth - toilet training and bike - almost all bikes see rain / wet - you seem to suggest that no other bike stands up to the FirstBike for durability. My son's bike has certainly seen different weather including rain and mud so if you are suggesting that it would somehow rust immediately or weather from being soiled on is unrealistic and if treated properly the Strider can be easily cleaned and looked after.

Fifth - bolt scratching. Never had a problem with it, my son rides flat out on his bike and so do many other kids I know who have this bike and no problems at all (this is our experience).

Sixth - Foot rest - You seem to have not understood the point of a foot rest, you talk about foot rests getting the way of practice..In the Strider the footrests positioned directly under the saddle, the natural location that allows for rider weight to be shifted to the rider's legs. You wouldn't dream of riding a normal bike without pedals would you? Foot rests on a pedal bike offer the rider the chance to transition themselves to the idea of what you would be doing on a proper pedal bike - resting your feet approximately where they would be on a pedal bike and redistribute your weight on a bike and go further without having to use your feet the whole way (you wouldn't constantly pedal on a bike would you if you didn't need to would you?), the whole point of what you are meant to be doing on a pedal bike. I certainly wouldn't want to ride off a curb or down a hill with my feet dangling, the weight distribution would be extremely uncomfortable.

In short while I appreciated checking out your video and your review of these bikes I didn't entirely agree with you and in fact felt that your review was too biased to the FirstBike. The Strider in my opinion is far more functional and much more comparable to a pedal bike, which will be my son's next step very shortly.

A real bike with training wheels is way better. Try riding your around the block on your bike with you kid pushing his balance bike all the way around the block next to you. Its no fun for them to push all that time when pedaling is easier and they learn it faster.

Strider offers air tires separately, ST4 has sealed bearings and the stirring wheel actually extends (and not just the saddle)

It's interesting your comments seemed to dislike footrests.  I think it's a benefit because the point of a balance bike is to teach a child how to balance with their feet up, so that they can graduate to a traditional pedal bike.
