I've made a few purchases from Tony, awesome seller. I got scuds, scud balls, bags of bugs, etc. Got stuff for all my tanks. ;)

I am planning a brackish/salt water tank based on the estuary at the bottom of my road. I did a small one many years ago before I knew what I was doing and it failed but I have learned a lot since then a lot from you that has given me the confidence to try again with the deep substrate method. I did keep an eel from the basin I caught in a net I caught it in salt water but it was a species that also lives in fresh so it had a fresh water tank it lived in for years with no water changes at all and he was fine I called him eddie and fed him gambusia from the pond which are an invasive pest, One day I thought eddie needed a water change and that was the day he died. The water change killed him.

I have scuds and shrimp together in a 5 gallon tank all breeding like mad. The shrimp are fine they sometimes overtake the scuds and numbers drop a bit and vica versa but it produces a lot of shrimp and I harvest scuds for fish food. There is a lot of other live culture in there that just turned up.

I am exited to hear about the C02 production of a deep substrate because it has confirmed my own observations and conclusions. I noticed my older deel substrate tanks the moss and some plants were pearling even without added C02 and I would see some small gas bubbles and seeing the plants pearling and the red tip growth under really very cheap lights now I know it is what I was thinking and that these tanks produce c02 without any help or expense. I have a shallow shrimp tank with a very deep clay/sand bed planted and no filter, no air stones the only tech it has is a light no heater just a light. Fluro with 1 pink bulb. The growth of the plants is insane dense and they are showing pinks and orange I did not know these plants even could they had always been green till now so that is very exiting to watch!

Has any research been done on comfrey leaves are they safe etc I use them to activate compost and improve soil in the garden but I think there are some substances that may be toxic so I have not used them I would love to know if they have been looked into however.
