As a non-English speaker, I love the accent of the Savoonga people. It really points to a country that sees the world in a specific way, tuned to the vastness of the ocean.

It's always fascinating how varied and complex Human culture is, and saddening at seeing how a certain side of America wants to flatten everything in the name of a fake diversity :(

Beautiful place. And yes, the ethnic diversity is obvious. Sonny and Nick and the kid who spoke about playing sports can easily pass as half east Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Korean), the man who had the whale tooth looks Japanese to me. Nobody in the US should feel Russians are our enemy, that's the crazy politics Nick was referring to, they are my distant cousins is how I look at it, i.e. the Siberian people, not just them, the white Euro Russians also.

This place is actually depressing to me and I usually like remote places. This just seems too isolated. Like they aren’t supposed to be there but still are. And to think of how cold it is most of the year. This place wouldn’t be fun.

The happiest people I have ever met are in Tanzania, in Africa. They are poor, many so poor that there is no comparison in the USA or Europe.

They eat pretty much all meat and very little vegetables or fruit....... yet I didn’t see very many obese people there among the ones he filmed.

Savoonga has a rich history with many ivory carvers who are famous. I worked there in medical area. The govt made a huge 20 million dollar water project. The Siberian Yupiks were relocated from the other side of the island because of toxic contamination from WW2 of the river. The “potatoes “ root vegetables are still dug up from that area. Unfortunately many people have health issues from the toxic pollutants that are still in the environment. We treated many complications from this. Thanks for sharing nice to see people I recognized.
