I, for one, always read and pronounce BCE and CE as 'Before Christian Era' & 'Christian Era' - whatever Jewish/Left academe dictate.

Apparently they used BC in the European translations but not the English. What does that tell you

If Pope Paul VI, Cardinals and Bishops can allow the Holy Mass to be wrecked after V2, it’s obvious nothing is sacred to them and still isn’t. I wish Michael Davis was still with us. Going by multiculturalist, postmodern liberal standards you could argue that “Before Common Era” is “worse” than “Before Christ” because it is claiming that the dating system is common to everyone. At least saying BC as a westerner is owning your own cultural background. BCE seen from this perspective is more “neo-colonial” than BC

Besides excoriating the Roman miscreants , I suggest a sort of rhetorical jujitsu, a martial art in which the enemy’s own force is used against him. If a Catholic can’t avoid using CE and BCE in some circumstance, then insist that the C stands for “Christian” and not “common.” Enforce this in the moment by always speaking the full phrase “Christian Era” or “Before the Christian Era.” If anyone objects that this isn’t the official meaning, demand that they declare why “common” is the only correct word for which the C may stand. After all, 44 “Before the Common Era” and 44 “Before the Christian Era” refer to the same fateful year for Julius Caesar, so there’s no scientific reason to insist on one formula vs. the other — except anti-Christian bigotry on the side of “Common.”

In writings, place a footnote on Page 1 explaining that you intend that C stands for Christian; then you can use BCE and CE without compromising your Faith or being tiresomely repetitive.

It’s only a tactical adaptation, but it could be useful until we regain enough influence in the arena of thought to put the traditional AD and BC back in their rightful place.

I use BC/AD. However, from what others have said it is only the English translations which use BCE/CE, the originals still use BC/AD, so perhaps we should criticise the translators and not the Pope.

Your information completely explains what has happened. I will continue to use AD and BC. This is just another way that the Truth of Christianity is being removed from the minds of people. The Common Era. We've all become so common. Lack of religious conviction probably.

The papal office should not be about the personality on St. Peter's Chair. It is a "divine office," impersonal, rather like the British monarchy which was so well served by the late Queen Elizabeth II. As Elizabeth II represented the British people, their parliamentary democracy, their history, their legacy, their identity, the pontiff must represent the deposit of faith which is unchanging, fixed, complete, accomplished. Christ is not, for us, simply a religious founder among religious founders as Francis I seems to think.

It pisses me off replacing BC and AD . I’ve seen it used in my own parish…..I was able to talk to the priest after Mass !
