People have been all over this earth, history books are flawed so much.

If you want to look into the history of this area, take the time to respectfully speak to the area’s native people. I do know there was once many places like these, and were often lookouts & sometimes even funerary platforms of the indigenous people of certain areas.

What I find SO cool is that there’s every chance that it could be from as far back as the time of the Spanish conquistadors.

The logs are a safety rail of a type-and the short logs create a cover for the crevices. More guidelines of what to avoid than actual safety devices. So I think it was a well used look-out point. The tiny shelter chamber beneath seems an obvious sitting place -probably is out of sight of the main path there. Good for a nap.

it was floor and walls, someone was spending time in this location.The box, i see smoke stains around, a fireplace, maybe some wall on the opening, heat and smoke coming up through opening in the floor. Some food procesing/storage facility or someone spending time in the cold air without having visible fire

Years ago someone I knew found a fully dressed skeleton (can't say what kind of clothes) and a 30-30 Winchester next to it.
Evident was a compound fracture of the thigh and a single bullet hole through the top of the skull. The gun barrel had large pitted blood stains on it apparently from the way it was positioned between his feet and arms.
Found like that on a small cliff ledge where it was impossible to get to without rope from above.
My friend didn't find anything for identification or anything else of value. The clothes were about rotted away, no shoes either.
My friend showed me the rifle almost 40 years ago and I even shot it.
Interesting story, don't know how true or even where exactly this was discovered.

Thanks, I agree with many commenters. One thing to add is I have noticed many similarities in different parts of the world of ancient times. Meaning somehow, these people traveled and/or communicated with each other, sharing knowledge. Different people different times were in these areas. Difficult to differentiate. But of the theories put forth here, I favor lookout with signaling. 😊
