Years late but my opinion is that the term 'Objects' should not include any 'entities', enemies, bosses, and NPCs aren't things, they're characters. Mobs, not Objs, to use the one programming vernacular I've played with. Granted, I realize this doesn't fix the immunity having to be granted in Bowser's worlds. Personally, for the sake of personal challenge, I would probably allow the Bowser world changes since it's about skill then, but I know that's not the question at hand. So, in my eyes, you can get the stars, but the Bowser Worlds are still impossible even by my logic.

I think the toads that carry stars should be considered as an object that holds a star. Like how bosses that hold stars are immune.

I'm all for editing certain conditions of a challenge run to make it technically possible. It's no fun if there's literally no way to beat the game with a chosen rule set. But it should be done sparingly to keep as close to the conditions as possible. For example, only the boo holding a level entrance because it technically counts as a door. This unlocks those stars, technically making the run possible. Just like everyone knows that pacifist skyrim is technically impossible because parthunax makes you breath fire on him when you meet him and you can't defeat alduin without landing the final blow. But we allow those because the run would be impossible otherwise. If someone finds a workaround, then that bending of the rules gets cut and the run is completed with the new workaround from then on.

I feel like any star related objects, like the penguin mom and child should remain included as well. Stuff like the eel, too.

Instead, I feel like the conclusion is negative either way. Because of the objects in the Bowser levels.
If every non-star related object turns into a coin, without taking anything else into consideration, the run is impossible simply because there is no way to finish the Bowser levels.

as someone with many years of experience in game development, it makes absolutely no sense to me that certain level geometry (specifically in whomp's fortress) are 3d objects. like ... why? I understand that this is an early 3d game, but it just makes no sense. is that a leftover of when levels were made entirely of objects and nothing else? I don't know how that would even happen otherwise. it's crazy, man.

Seriously the rule that bothers me is not whether some bosses should count or not, it's whether the objects at Bowser in X should be immune or not. Im hoping some creative solutions that make it unnecessary to make them immune.
