Personal comment of Laura Botten: God hardened Pharaoh's heart AFTER Pharaoh hardened it himself 7 or 8 times. The way it was explained to me is that the more you reject God, the harder it will be to come back. God doesn't randomly "throw some people away", there are people who will reject him so often that he will use them for his purposes AFTER they have chosen their path away from him. Eg. It's always possible that Hitler asked God's forgiveness right before he died, but chances are that he was too far away to even have the desire to come back.

Maybe it’s because I was raised just a lowly Jew, and the closest thing to their religion I saw growing up was my paternal side who are Quaker and genuinely good decent humans who serve the most vulnerable outside their own faith and don’t ram Jesus down everyone’s throats.

But I don’t understand the concurrence or whatever. So does that mean the children suffering with cancer too? Also the sin is sin is sin belief. Being mean to your mom is vastly different than Mvrdering someone…and you can come back usually from being mean to a parent or not obeying them. What if a parent told them to get an abortion, would she advocate to sin. I mean if it’s all the same and we’re going to double hockey sticks anyhow why not just go on a spree, covet a neighbor etc… I’m so confused.

I use to really like Allie Beth, then it started getting really yucky to me. It started to remind me of my “sweet” but super judgmental fundie high school friends.

The dumbest part of Calvinist thought is, if everything is completely and personally controlled by God at all times down the to smallest quark, then why did he even bother making anything in the first place? What is the difference before and after creation if everything is simply an extension of God's direct will?

My unpopular opinion (as an exvangelical) is that these people (WBBC and ABS) are correct in their literal interpretation of the Bible. This is the logical conclusion of taking biblical texts literally and truly believing what the text tells you and how the Bible instructs you to interpret it. The problem is inherently in the text!! It's not a misinterpretation, I think the text is rotten to the core.

Her dad has a silver tongue when it matters, but probably doesn’t actually care about her very much and she learned really well how to persuade and argue her way into winning attention from him. On camera he’s sweet and he has canned lines he can say about her as a child, but her behavior indicates she has a deep hole in her heart that given her upbringing I’d assume is probably due to being raised as a woman told you’re nothing unless a man or boy says so, and nothing she does matters unless it glorifies a man, not god. Her career is an exercise in easing that childhood wound, and is as much her skilled self-soothing as it is her trying to calm people down about political policy.

This is an aspect of Calvinism that I still can't wrap my head around, so maybe someone with a Christian/Calvinist background can help me out. She believes whether people are good or bad, and whether or not they're going to heaven, has already been determined. So why is she so mad at everyone who doesn't adhere to her morality? Why would she expect homosexuals to repent and change? It's not their fault if God made them to be evil and go to hell. ABS acts as though anyone without religion Christianity must be completely devoid of a moral compass, but as an atheist, this philosophy seems like it's saying if I'm bad, I'll either repent and change or I won't, but I don't get to make that choice, so I should just do whatever I want.
