God I wish people would stop describing v-tubers as "playing a character". It makes it sound as if they are actors and it invalidates all their hard work as some sort of scripted play. They are absolutely real people doing a job to entertain people just as much as womble himself is doing. Just a different medium. It's not that hard to understand yet somehow this view keeps getting passed around. I'm surprised people still say the "They are all guys" thing as well xD That's some 2009 bullshit xD
ОтветитьThe irony of a video about Womble learning about vtubers in a channel reminiscent of a vtuber clips channel. Or maybe it's meta.
ОтветитьHe should hear about Vexoria for really Horny Mommy vibes :)
And Guras Show in a Stadium for a Sports Team and her just for her cute Personality ;)
Very cool Soviet approved this channel as he normal is very particular about people uploading his content. Its funny for half Soviets audience they have no idea what he is like on stream when he is normally chill guy just talking random stuff like this until he has adhd moment and turns into something silly or stupid for giggles.
ОтветитьThe more you fight and resist the (rabbit) hole, the deeper you will sink when you slip and fall into it. It is also rather difficult to classify "vtuber/vtubing" as a whole because of how diverse the themes(a.k.a. RP) everyone is playing into.
ОтветитьI enjoy the hard cope from the german who has difficulties accepting that practically every single vtuber is heavily sexualized.
ОтветитьEvery single thing they said to explain vtubers was 1 for 1 identical to how furries describe being a fur
ОтветитьSuperficially, being a "VTuber" really is just using an animated avatar instead of regular facecam, and is predominantly "weeb shit" in that anime-style avatars are exceptionally popular, but you can literally be anything with it. Vedal is a mascot-lookin turtle, there's a jet plane VTuber, an orc office worker, a black and white early 20th century style cartoon girl, sky's the limit.
The bit about "playing the character" is entirely optional, some do it plenty, others don't at all, and often character lore is a bit like a D&D character's background. You can make some fun content out of it here and there but it's mainly fluff as far as the everyday stream goes.
Being a corporate VTuber does sound like an awful deal at a glance, but when you look at how expensive it is to get into streaming, then add the expenses of a VTuber model, the risk of then not getting any kind of audience is terrifying. So while it might sound like a deal with the devil, the good corpos help you get setup, and if they have a decent reputation you'll be almost guaranteed a decent audience at debut. Not a bad deal given they take varying cuts depending on the company. What happens from there is up to you as a performer.
I appreciate that womble was chill and curious about it without jumping to any superficial conclusions (though it was kinda close at times with some of the generalizations that came up).
A friend of mine does the vtuber stuff a bit. Nothing big time, but mostly just as a hobby, and from what she's said it's got a lot to do with people being creeps to her vs to her avatar, and it also makes it eay easier to just pop on stream without doing up your makeup and hair and all that. Dude streamers can roll out of bed and get on the cpmputer and still do well, but women still have a lot of their popularity tied to their appearance.
ОтветитьAs someone who is deeply involved in the vtuber scene, it PAINS me to see someone reading a massive chat to learn about it
ОтветитьIts just strange to me that many of the avatars are essentially anime waifus. Cant take Vtubers seriously when most of the time their avatars are either lolis or hybrids with giant tits. To me, them and their audience are just a giant weeb circle jerk tbh.
Ответитьi wonder what he thinks of the vtubers that react to his content
ОтветитьIf you still believe vtubers are 50year old fat men youre beyond help.
And yes it does give them a confidence boost. Tho still you can get doxxed but not having a face attached to the avatar is a great deal of personal security.
Reading at description says the stream is taken back in 2021, that is basically a year after the exposure of VTubers. I'm glad to hear Soviet able to talk about it, and eventually fell into a rabbit hole like one of us here. I can understand these only clips weren't included in his bullshitteries because it focuses on funnies and Monty Python crap.
Wanna know who made me getting into a rabbit hole? A friendly fox singing Scatman.
Ah yes
Been through that same Rabbit hole a few month ago.
Not my cup'o'tea but surprisingly deep under the surface
my guy you've been a vtuber for over decade
ОтветитьMany content creators ate playing characters, even if they don't use an animated model. JackScepticEye has explicitly stated that Jack (his on-screen persona) and Sean (himself) are separate
Ответитьhonestly, Soviet is a Vtuber...
ОтветитьI don't know where this perception that vtubing is "just some 50 year-old guy with a girl avatar" came from, though, it is based on an idea that is much older than vtubing and streaming.
Can you imagine how much work it would be to try and fool a company like Cover or Nijisanji into thinking you're a girl when you're a guy?
It's also worth pointing out (and maybe Womble got to this at some point) that at least some of the flak towards VTubers comes down to a lot of them having conventionally attractive models - the argument goes that they're just using those models because they're trying to bring in "the gooners." Which I'm sure is true to at least some extent, but not in the way you'd expect: being attractive is so ingrained in culture (and especially Eastern culture from what I understand) that... well, if you have the option to make your model look however you want, why WOULDN'T you choose something people find attractive? If you were comfortable just looking like yourself, you probably wouldn't be using a model in the first place! The whole point of a digital model is it lets you look exactly how you want, and sure, for some people that means a cyborg aesthetic, for some people in means a fursona, and for some people it means just being an attractive lady. So what's the big problem?
Ответитьwombles not one to talk, the first dayz bullshittery had fcking adventure time smut
ОтветитьIt’s kind hard to watch(listen) to this. Like they half way understand why vtubers are popular but at the same time they’re so surface level in there discussion it hurts.
ОтветитьWow, been a while since this conversation, a small update from my end then, I have gotten down to the thighs now so I am enjoying more of the Vtuber models than ever before
ОтветитьWhat game was he playing at the start
ОтветитьI like that he got that whole in depth explanation, then at the end still summarized with "you horny bastards."
ОтветитьMy husband used to do a lot of PNGTuber streaming (like VTuber but its 2 flat images that switch between on and off so you know they are talking) and part of it was playing a character but a LOT of it was he wasn't confident in how he looked on stream so instead of a webcam broadcasting his face, he had his character in the bottom right corner. You will see a lot like that with people who collab a lot. Vtuber's like Monarch and Cyyu for example will have their own fully rigged avatar that mirrors their movements and they can control more fluidly while their collab partner, usually in a discord call or something, will have a picture (usually smaller) next to them that switches on and off when they talk.
ОтветитьMan that chat transition is the smoothest thing I've seen gaddayum. Great video
ОтветитьIs it just me but that one dude sounds like ZARBON.
Ответитьlibrarian for womble
Ответитьsoviet is the og vtuber, way before all the others
ОтветитьMe: *sees a vtuber, clicks 'Don't recommend channel'*
ОтветитьI like watching Vedal987, though i dont know if i regard him as a vtuber
ОтветитьMany ppl have their own perspective of looking at "Vtuber" content, but my POV is just like you're watching another anime but as a STREAMER, so imagine those character you watching from anime, that can sometime interact with you while they stay in character(most of the time) while playing modern games, or singing the song that you familiar with, or doing relatable meme stuff.
TL;DR: Vtuber are just a person playing as a anime character role while streaming, and in Hololive, most of the members have a HUGE lore nowadays. Welcome to the vtuber rabbit hole, please enjoy your stay 😉
bros 5 years late to the party
Ответить"you horny bastards"
lmao
I still don't know what the V stands for.
Ответить"you horny bastards" cut to black
bravo for that ending
One of the persistent themes of this conversation is that the diversity of the medium is part of the appeal. It's like how animation is cool because you can do anything and have full artistic freedom. Performing through a model gives you a lot of novel options, and the fact that people are exploring everything vtubing CAN be is a credit to the medium.
On a similar note, it's very funny every time guys assume that the one "appealing to women" type of guy is Big Muscles. They're always surprised by how popular the anime prettyboys are! They're arguably MORE popular than the buff guys, but women are a large diverse audience and there's definitely room for lots of types of guy in the market. You also see that with incel culture being like "I don't have a craggy rock face for a jaw it's all over" when literally there's a huge market for softer skinnier guys, and these dudes would immediately see more interest just by showering and giving up the slurs for lent.
yeah it was funny sovietwomble saying "you horny bastards" at the end, but I think what sends me is the fact that the latest chat message before the video ends was someone typing "fucking weebs all of you"
ОтветитьAs a Vtuber fan, it's nice to hear the perspective of someone who just wants to learn a bit about what "Vtubers" actually are before making an opinion.
Until now, I've only heard people who loves Vtubers or others that are just too weirded out at first and writes it off as a horrible degenerate thing instantly.
It really is in my opinion just a matter of preference for who you watch and what they're version of Vtuber is.
Soviet Womble looks like he took awhile before he realised wrestling isn't an actual sport
ОтветитьIt's genuinely fascinating from a social/cultural angle. Like, we're used to the "realness" of regular streamers as well as the more practiced masks of professional actors on and off the set, but this is something in between.
ОтветитьI love this format of "SovietWomble learns about..."
Ответить"You Horni Bastards!" What a perfect wasy to end the video. 😂😂
ОтветитьHow is womble learning about vtubers when he himself has been a vtuber almost the whole the time.
ОтветитьAll I've ever seen from Vtubers is pdfile baiting 🤷 I'm sorry but majority of vtuber watchers are pdfiles light
ОтветитьMany thanks, Soviet's Soapbox, by the way. This channel is doing something I find a relief. You're not chaining together the comedic parts of the streams and posting them faster than I can. You're taking the non-comedic moments - the discussions, the opinions, the 'takes' - of both me and my clan mates.
It's not really something I can easily do with my workload and audience expectations. I feel as though I need to focus on the comedy. But there are lots of moments on those livestreams, between the comedic, where we just podcast-style talk about stuff happening on the internet, etc.
Thank you for taking the time to chain those together.
