This subject fascinated me as a child. Although I believe it’s been adequately explained scientifically, the fact that it occurs at all is still a bit mind boggling. Thank you for the deeper dive.

The idea of these victims being linked to the devil or demons is obviously bs. Have you ever heard of a politician being a victim of spontaneous human combustion? No, neither have I sadly.

The way people don’t seem to react to themselves spontaneously combusting remind me of the experiment where a frog will not notice if they are in water that is slowly heated up… maybe the burning starts from the inside and gradually reaches a pitch where combustion occurs? It’s such a weird phenomenon

All my life I’ve been fascinated by this and as an adult got into a conversation with my cousins about it. We all thought about it. All our lives. None of us ever brought it up but oddly, somehow across ages and genders and parents, we all glommed onto this strange fixation. Why?

if this is true it seems strange to me that there isn’t more cases of this is say Scotland where a lot of people drink whiskey or other places like Russia, I’m sorry but I just don’t believe this and now it seems to have stopped. 😂 nah sorry don’t believe it BUT if you are willing to make a video on this THEN can you make one on SLIDERS, people who are know to effect electricity, higher levels of energy which influence electronic please, I have asked this on so many channels and I don’t receive an answer so if you read these comments then please think about it or look into it. @into the fog with Peter laws.

Hi Pete I love your channel, but human combustion does not exist, coming from a scientific background, some people have been found dead being burned to death mysteriously, they have however have always been close to an ignition source, that explains their death, it's very hard to ignite petrol in the open air, just to let you know it's impossible for a person to ignite albeit from the inside, hope this helps

When I was a young girl we had a book at home of medical oddities,it was a big dark brown hardback I found on the top shelf I used to get it down and look through it but one photo scared me it was of just part of a leg with a shoe or slipper on it was all that was left as they had burned but I remember the chair wasn't after reading it I was from then on terrified everytime I felt too hot as I thought I was going to burn like the person in the photo,I eventually forgot over time but watching this took me back to that time I first saw it ,I'm 59 now but it is a very scary oddity still

Peter, I love all your work and the stories that you cover. But I have to say that I am disappointed in your decision to use AI images in your videos. Generative AI scrapes the internet and steals from other hard working artists without permission to create the images that are created. Not only that, but AI is costing our planet. It uses so much water and energy to create these poorly formed images in a time when such things only push us closer and closer to the crisis point. I don't know if you'll see my comment, or indeed, if you'll take my words into consideration. But I can only hope.

I always thought this must have something to do with ATP in the cells of the body, this is a very energy dense chemical and would burn without the need for oxygen.

This has been scientifically explained in the majority of cases. If someone bursts u=into flames in front of another with nothing to ignite them then that would be spontaneous human combustion.

This is worth checking...^^

As I recall, victims of this almost always have two traits: they're obese, and they smoke. They die of heart attacks in their recliners and drop their lit cigarette on their clothes or Lazy-boy, which then catches fire. The flames melt their victim's fat, which then burns as fuel. The fire goes out when the body's fluids overcome the remaining fat. This was a big mystery in the 1970's, but the world sort of lost interest when they realized the cause.

Keep in mind the nervous system on the exterior of the body is not present in the inner organs in the same degree. An inner fire on organs without nerves would not be directly felt and they might be burning nearby exterior nerves out along the way (which also explains why no one is ambulatory in these stories). Too much alcohol sounds like the incendiary as well as explaining why the flames are hot enough to burn the body but not much else (furniture, floors, etc.) as alcohol has a low burning point.

I have found one earlier case from 163 BC. The report was that “a flame came out of a bull’s mouth, without hurting the beast, by not finding any resistance to its way." It sounds like the bull was calm while it was happening, just like what is said happens to people.

I also think it's interesting how spontaneous combustion of other things besides humans is considered a very real and scientific thing. Such as rags covered in linseed oil, stored animal feed, or hay bales. Ironically, it's wet hay bales that farmers have to worry about. The bacteria and mold are capable of generating enough heat to ignite the soggy hay. Is that what happened inside the bull? Is that what happens inside people?

They now think that spontaneous human combustion was caused by Paraffin and Petroleum creams. It’s basically like oily rags combusting. The person was using combustible creams on their skin and then putting clothing over the top, which in turn became impregnated with the cream. They then either sat in front of a heat source and that caused the combustion or it just happened spontaneously. Probably quite common in those days not to wash your clothes as much, and someone on here already mentioned a lot of these cases happened in autumn and winter which would indicate people sitting in front of fires. I used to be terrified of it too, but for me this is a good explanation of the cause especially as we don’t hear about it happening now there are more regulations on the ingredients of medicated creams

Years ago, I was wearing a bathrobe from a cheapie store that has since gone out of business. I put the kettle on the stove and even though I was far from the flame, just the nearby heat ignited the sleeve of my bathrobe and within seconds almost the whole bathrobe was in flames. Fortunately, I didn't have it tied, and I was able to tear it off superfast where it continued to burn on my kitchen floor. We no longer hear about Human Combustion in the US, and I think that is due to laws being passed that require all clothing sold in the US to be flame resistant. Clothing that comes in from other countries is tested for flame resistance before it is allowed on the market. I suspect that these people were victims of highly flammable clothing before these laws were passed.

I think this spiking so majorly after the popularization of synthetic fibers makes me think the 20th century cases probably has something to do with that. There's reasons we have laws about children's bedding and pajama fabrics needing to be certified for flame resistance

Edit: if the flames are really from within the body, staying calm makes perfect sense because unlike a fire on the skin, we have less nerve endings internally than on the skin and they're likely already in shock from dying. So then the odd bit is just "how the heck would it start" but the behavior wouldn't be as strange.

It's almost biblical being consumed by fire with no other damage to thier surroundings, as with the sons of Aaron that entered the holy place of Moses, so God consumed them with fire for thier stupidity , pretty scary thought ay, or did they have some cocktail starting some unknown chemical reaction will we ever know the truth cheers from Australia.
