We are foster parents with a sibling set of 4 we’ve had since November of 2020. We will be claiming them 2021. I keep hearing advance 2021 child tax payment. Will the irs portal allow for that to receive the credit for the children in our care? If just based on 2020 tax their drug addict parents they don’t live with will receive money they’ll never see

Travis, thanks for the helpful video. I still feel like there's a REALLY obvious question that I can't find a single answer to anywhere on the internet. Will the IRS do anything to change its federal tax withholding tables in July? I mean, this seems obvious to me, but if you have a straightforward tax situation and you have one child, you filled out your 2021 W-4 in January asking for $2,000 child tax credit. If you go into July with that same W-4, will the IRS now pay you 100% of your estimated monthly child tax credit ($300/mo), PLUS continue to assume you have a $2,000 allowance for Child Tax Credit from your W-4? It just seems really obvious to me that, for the most simple taxpayers whose situations didn't change, they BY DEFINITION will owe money at the end of the year because of this double-dip, right? Or, is the IRS adjusting the withholding tables and somehow 'eliminating' that 'Step 3' amount that was filled out in January 2021? I can't find this issue addressed ANYWHERE - IRS website or tax advisor blogs etc.
