The last big project I did took me 3 months after hours and at first it went fast then it slowed down a lot because it became very repetitive.

Agreeing on what finished looks like was the hardest part of any project I've been involved with, and for some weird reason it's even harder when you have nobody to argue with.

Who are you? I dont know you. Why are you making a video about me? Where did you get all that info!? I thought i was being thorough with my opsec.. This is embarrassing.
But seriously, that was great! You helped me put words on my situation, and that subconscious thought trying to find an excuse got crushed right from the start!

Oh boy, perfectionism.

Layouts mismatches, quirky features, typos, project architecture, overengineering, conventions...

I would say the biggest nail in the coffin of web dev projects is that a lot of the projects don't actually solve a real problem. When you hit a wall, it becomes very hard to motivate yourself when you are somewhat aware that you're not building something that helps people or solves a problem.

Sounds also like what happens whem you get a request for a system doing x, and you plan for x, then as you check of milestones getting closer to x scope creep stsrts culiminating in the ever green "well the most important part of this system was actually z" .. -_-

Hey Forrest, your long hair looked much better, it gave you character, and with all respect to you (i love your channel), you're just looking like another npc yt presenter.
well, at least it'll grow back (unless you're cutting it to preempt MPB, or medical, then for that, you have my thoughts and prayers)

great video, i like that you emphasise some key points people need to keep in mind (i sometimes forget about these things when i'm in doom loop). liked the way you addressed vibe coding and that they're not actually learning, the best way to use AI is to help you do something rather than do it for you.
and the hair, yeah, about that...

There is one type of project for which shoe creep is a good thing: learning project. When the goal IS to go through the motions… Chase that scope creep and learn! Am I missing something?

@sopey684
@sopey684 - 17.05.2025 02:32

The reason why people scope creep is because when they want to push a product to market they know that they only get one shot to impress a potential customer. If they come to your platform and it has 10% of the feature another one has, you’ll never see that customer from the market again. So people out of paranoia build every possible advantage they can to convince a potential customer to stay.
