Because our nearest bookshop is over 80 miles away, no one thinks of giving book tokens any more. The next best thing is finding books in charity shops locally.

Great Haul! I’m going to get the audio of Be a Birder based on your review! I also enjoyed the Jenny Murray book. Wasn’t so keen on Before the Coffee Gets Cold but many people love it.

Happy New Year to you, David and Daphne. I've read Before The Coffee Gets Cold and thought it was lovely. I have Whalebone Theatre on my shelves but at around 540 pages I'll need to be in the mood for a chunkster. Looking forward to seeing the books you enjoy (and those you don't) in 2024.

I found it very repetitive, every time the rules came up, I skim read, and the explanation of the rules just got longer. DNF'D book 2 before the first story was even over because it was just too obviously translated (as in the sentences sounded strange) and I think I was explained the rules at least twice before the person was even on the chair. I think it was originally a play and I could see me enjoying it slightly more on stage but written down it's not for me.

For series I do recommend the poppy war by RF Kuang or Firekeeper's daughter by Angeline Boulley (a Duology and while YA, not obviously so). For the second one, I recommend the audiobook.

For a more lighthearted read, I recommend the London calling series by Alexis Hall (book 1 is boyfriend material)

I should add a cookbook to my wishlist! And actually, use it 😅
The lost bookshop is one I got last year and want to read soon - high hopes!

Happy New Year Lauren! I only got one book because my family say I'm impossible to buy for 😅 so my mum got me a Vintage Classic - Brighton Rock. But I've not heard good things about it 😬!!

The Whalebone Theatre was one of my favorites from 2023. I rarely get books as gifts. I read so much everyone thinks I already have all the books 😂

Super collection of new books -- always my favorite to receive books. I did receive a stack of books and gift cards so I can add to my stack. And I did! Mostly I added books for my Neighborhood Book Club, The Naturalist Book Club [on Book Tube] and the six books for Britta's six classics. Plus some books I want to read like Of Time and Turtles and The Curious World of Seahorses: The Life and Lore of a Marine Marvel. I also received the Ultimate Reading Challenge. I gave the children's version to my 7yo granddaughter - we opened them back to back and tried not to peek into the little envelopes.

Cookbooks are always fun - but living in the US it is often difficult to use cookbooks from the UK as Math is involved to convert measurements . I've been looking at the Call The Midwife Cook Book for awhile - will have to get to the books store and check the recipes. I love the show - not sure when it starts here - usually it is after it ends in the UK.

PS: I got a jar of that Pink cleaning stuff in my stocking - I had a neighbor from England who used it - years ago and your cleaning binges reminded me about how great it works.

I loved what I read of Whalebone Theatre, it was from the library and I had to return it, so many holds on it!

WBT started strong for me and then it fell away . It would make a good series.

Whalebone Theatre was the first book I read in 2023 and was 5 🌟 I think you’ll really enjoy as it has family saga vibes and was quite unputdownable 🐳 🎭

Before the Coffee gets Cold series is great. I really enjoyed it.

I have the same Pride & Prejudice edition that you received on my shelves. One of the letters is the letter written to Elizabeth from Mr. Darcy after she refuses his proposal, I loved reading the written letter. This edition is so unique and beautifully presented. I feel you'll really love it.

Polly who? I received the latest John Grisham from my son, daughter-in-law and grandson, it has a lovely jacket but alas my husband and I did not care for the plot, which released at an unfortunate time in history.

I've just started watching call the midwife! I wondered if you could do a video just on cross stitch, I've bought some kits put keep putting off starting them! If you can't do a video, what aida have you used for your kawaii? I think little 'pictures' as you're doing would be a better place to start rather than a full kit x
