AARP started stalking me in my 40s. I ignored them for more than 20 years. A neighbors magazine came to my mailbox a few months ago. I thumbed through it before putting it back to usps could properly deliver. Great, very useful information in the magazine so I got a subscription a few weeks ago. Thanks for the informative video. I was wondering if my hubby and I should join but it doesn't sound like it truly helps anyone except their companies get richer. And looking at previous posts telling stories of AARP not being their for elderly people when they needed them most tells the sad truth too.

As for AARP supporting Dems, and the Republicans answer was coming out with their own type of AARP companies, I don't want any part of their money making machine on either side as as it has sadly been my long time opinion that neither side truly cares about our country's citizens. They're in politics for themselves. They want power, money, and to be known... a bunch of prideful men & women too worried about being "right" then working things out for the good of all. They care more about their own legacy, making book deals or speeches at special luncheons to make their own millions. If either side were really in Washington DC for the people, our country would not be in the mess it's in today. I just learned that AARP has been charging my credit card for a "membership" that I NEVER REQUESTED!!! I am legally blind, so it is extremely difficult for me to read. Therefore I have friends and relatives interpret contracts, etc. for me. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER did I sign up for AARP's membership (even though they have been hassling me for YEARS to join). When I get their junk mail, it goes right in the trash. I called their help line (in India) and was told by a very sweet young lady that, while she could cancel my upcoming auto-withdrawal (another thing I would NEVER consent to!), she could not refund the 3 years ($48) that was STOLEN from my account!!! BEWARE, SENIORS: AARP is NOT your friend!!!

Many times you can get the AARP discounts, even if you are not a member, just by asking for it! Just ask the company for an AARP discount and it is yours!

Yeah yeah yeah! I don't care about politics and "isms". I do care about health insurance and its cost. I care about the availability of medications, treatments and programs for older people since most agencies don't, even though they say they do. As a person over fifty, some the programs pique my interest like not being shot on the way to the supermarket to spend my social security check. Thanks for the info, I'm going to sign up now.

I have been eligible to become a member of AARP for 16 years now. I have refused to do so as long as they remain an anti second amendment organization. Their official position is to restrict the rights of Americans to keep and bear arms. No discount on prescriptions is worth supporting an organization that wants to end my Constitutional rights.
