I can completely relate to Mr. Boak's sentiment about Mark Knopfler, because he is my favourite guitar player as well. Although it has to be said that his genius made me quit playing the guitar for a few years in my youth (thinking "I can never reach that level").
However, my ultimate recording of the sound of a Martin guitar, or rather of more than one Martin guitar will always be "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills and Nash, the Woodstock version. Although the original sound quality is terrible, somehow I don't hear that, but rather what I imagine those two guitars must have sounded like. And that's pure, ultimate Martin.

Lovely interview.

When all else is nearly equal the people make the difference and for that reason both Martin & Co as well as Santa Cruz makes my A + list.

Totally agree about Dick's comments regarding the OM shape. You can hear all strings, and as a result to my ear it actually sounds louder and more 'hi fi'. A dreadnought is probably louder overall, but requires you to drive it harder with a pick to extract that. An OM gives you most of the volume with a much lighter touch imo.
