6 - Night Shift
5 - The Shining
4 - Salems Lot
3 - The Long Walk
2 - The Dead Zone
1 - The Stand
“From the very best to rage” 😭😂

Ответить8- the dead zone
7- Salem’s lot
6- the stand
5- Carrie
4- rage
3- the long walk
2- night shift
1- the shining
8. Rage
7. The Dead Zone
6. The Long Walk
5. Night Shift
4. The Shining
3. Carrie
2. Salem’s Lot
1. The Stand
I really enjoyed the stand I read the uncut version and so was the long walk there are both my all time favorites from king 👑 😘😗🥰
ОтветитьI agree Salems lot is better than the Shining.
ОтветитьWe will never receive novels like The Dead Zone and The Shining 😔😔😔
ОтветитьYour channel is amazing.
The best I've seen on Stephen King and especially the way you describe every King book is matchless. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍👍
Could you please tell me what The Stand is about and is it worth reading🤔🤔🤔
ОтветитьGood list I respect it. I agree with the stand too. To save time I will just put my top 3. Night shift, salems lot, and The shining.
ОтветитьJust finished Billy Summers (great) and I’m finishing The Shining (incredible). I’m hooked. I began to read “IT” as a young teen when it was released and I think I’ve got to read it next. Also want to read Salem’s Lot, 11/22/63 and Pet Semetary. What should I read as a follow to the Shining?
ОтветитьGood list. No. Great list!
ОтветитьMy ranking
8: Rage (expected it to be super dark and disturbing because of it's reputation, but it was literally listening to a whiny twat whinge for 200 pages. No thanks)
7: Night Shift (Has some great stories but surprisingly, I was quite underwhelmed with the majority of the stories.)
6: The Long Walk (While it's certainly entertaining, interesting and gory enough, it just isn't quite there. I dunno, the ending kinda sucks and, well, it just doesn't really leave any kind of impression. I think it's a tad overrated)
5: The Shining (Great book, but I like the movie way more. COME AT ME!!!)
4: Carrie (From here on out all books are 5 stars. I've read this book twice and the most recent time, I literally read it on a hot summers day in the pool non stop. One of the greatest things I've ever done and I love this book so much!)
3: The Stand (What can I say that hasn't been said? Not a wasted word in this book.)
2: The Dead Zone (I won't say much about this, aside from the fact that if Salem's Lot didn't exist, this would probably be my favourite King book ever)
1: Salem's Lot (Scary, fucking scary, great characters, AMAZING world building, it's just about perfect everything! It'll always be my favourite King book!)
Love the vids keep up the great work
ОтветитьRecently found out about you
ОтветитьThe Shining was… underwhelming. idk why, probably because i had built it up so much in my head before I read it.
ОтветитьMy list for what I have read:
6 - Carrie
5 - The Long Walk
4 - The Dead Zone
3 - The Stand
2 - The Shining
1 - Salem's Lot
"Now I know what you are all thinking..."
Yes Dave. Carrie is better than the Stand!
what editions of the books are these (the editions Carrie, Stand, Shining, Salem's Lot, Dead Zone)? I was always a fan of minimal uniform covers and that appeals to me wildly
ОтветитьI totally agree with you on The Stand being over rated, although it's a good book. On Rage as well, I couldn't even finish it. Dead Zone is just amazing!! Also my favorite of that decade (but not my all time favorite, which is It). Salems Lot and The Shining are other two that I love. I need to read The Long Walk, though.
ОтветитьI enjoy your appreciation of the King short story collections. In college I tried to take a class called Advanced Fiction Writing after really enjoying Writing Fiction. On the first day of class, 6 of us sat around the table with the professor. It was a small class because it was a very selective course. The professor asked us to name our favorite short story authors. I honestly told my cohort that my favorite short stories were all by Stephen King. The professor told me that "novelists and genre writers" didn't count and that Stephen King did not write short stories. I already had plenty of units on my schedule and knew I was going to have a rough time trying to write what I wanted to under the prof's tutelage, so I dropped the class as soon as I got home. It still amazes me that an English professor did not know that King has published loads of short stories.
ОтветитьReally hard to rank 70s King. I have spent the last three months re reading all his collections and novellas in order. It was a great three months. Keep up the amazing work and I would like to say thank you for sending me mirrored. I really enjoyed it. Take care Dave.
Ответить1980 or so: I'm a freshman living in my college dorm, everybody is saying "Mike, Mike, have you read Carrie? This guy King is just GREAT!" I tell them I tried to read Carrie and it didn't grab me, "but you should read The Long Walk. This guy Bachman is a hundred times better than King!" No kidding! Dave, I love your videos!
ОтветитьAfter just finishing all of these for the first time, my ranking is as follows.
8. Rage (not great, very problematic, and an easy skip)
7. The Long Walk (much better than Rage, but not even close to the others on the list. The characters are solid, and I love the world here, I just wish it was explored a bit more)
6. Carrie (my first Stephen King book, excellent story, excellent characters, very solid and short book)
5. Night Shift (amazing short story collection, so many great stories and no real duds here)
4. The Dead Zone (great concept, great characters, and great emotional impact. A great book overall)
3. The Shining (very intense and eerie, amazing characters and an incredible concept)
2. Salem’s Lot (amazing worldbuilding, great characters all around, and some of the most intense and scary sequences I’ve ever read)
1. The Stand (unbelievable worldbuilding and characters, I loved the epic scope and scale of the story as well. Definitely a major achievement and worthy to stand as the best on this stacked list)
Thanks for this channel, one of the reasons I read all of the these books in the first place instead of skipping around. Starting the Dark Tower now, and I’m very excited
Uhm, in this decade I disagree a lot.
1. The Long Walk - fuckin masterpiece
2. The Stand
3. Salem's Lot
4. Dead Zone - yeah, I like it a lot, really!
5. Nightshift
...
I disagree on Rage.I have more fun with it, than with Carrie or Shining - I really don't like The Shining, it has to be my Stand^^
I just hate " The stand " Its not even top 20 of Stephen king novels
ОтветитьI think ranking Carrie low was wise. Here's my list:
1970's:
1. Night Shift (I like to be scared in small doses)
2. The Dead Zone (real people are scarier than monsters)
3. The Stand (thanks to a virus, population is controlled and killed off)
4. The Shining (that's where it belongs- dead smack in the middle)
5. The Long Walk (solid but often forgotten)
6. Carrie (superpowers aren't scary...)
7. Rage (I read it when I had teenage angst. Plus, it was a banned book so that was appealing to me)
8. Salem's Lot (I am glad this is his only vampire book. Vampires suck!- all puns intended)
Great thing about reading is that devotees don’t HAVE to agree. That’s what makes it fun. I just found your channel and I am enjoying it. King fan since 13 year old me was handed a shiny new copy of IT in 1986 by my dad.
King wrote some of his best in the decade of my birth, the 1970s. My ranking would be…
8. Rage
7. Carrie
6. The Long Walk
5. Night Shift
4. The Dead Zone
3. The Shining
2. The Stand
1. Salem’s Lot
Just because the first half of the stand
1 the stand
2 salems
3 the shining
4 the dead zone
5 the long walk
6 im gonna read carrie after i catch up to his " last current book" 😆
I liked the 70's! Just finished Firestarter now, it was good, but as you said maybe abit tryhard at times
PS: ive got roadwork, cujo, and the running man up next. 😢😅🎉🎉
