Corpus Hermeticum - Introduction to Hermes Trismegistus & Hermetic Philosophy

Hey doc, what are your thoughts on the passage in Isaiah 19 where it says that Egypt shall erect a monument Hashem's name? [Hardcore monotheism] And what about the prophecy about Nile turning to blood? Striking.

I had a brief divine madness/delusion seed for about three months, took forever to come back from. Not recommend.
Thinking on it after there are a lot of thing that seem to ring true but it was like the subconscious was projected onto the world and logic took a back seat to overlay positive whimsy.

If I were to consider it some kind of similar thing, a divine information dump if you will, then I don't believe I'm just a vessel at all. I filtered it and thus there is truth but it's via my reality tunnels. Nothing is, just seems to be, etc.
I felt compelled to tell people but was it truely just verbalising my subconscious in an attempt to balance baggage (one being my frustrations with the world).

I'm not comparing myself to these great thinks, just find it interesting how people see these things from inside.
Although, we are all geniuses in our way.

Hi from the future! I'm a fan of your work generally and wanted to get a basic understanding of terms and concepts, so I came here to watch this video. I don't expect to come out of this with an understanding of Hermeticism or esotericism, but I'll definitely have a better mental road map.

Same tasks, different semantics. It gets really interesting when you compare these texts with indigenous initiatory paths. There is no awareness of certain processes not Even a language for it, but the initiatory process elucidated through the initiate’s experience is the same.

Initiation isn’t lost. It’s just not offered in the same way anymore. Lineages have to evolve, To meet the needs of the culture in which they are doing their work.

We were recommended to read the Bryan Copenhauer Translation because earlier additions are so dry and verbose, and filled with 19th century jargon.

I love what a nerd you are and I celebrate it. So few people actually read these texts. They are the bread and butter of Occult philosophy we are supposed to read them in my lineage, but there are a few true hermetics left, even among us who train in those lineages. and I love your scholarly approach. It’s magnificent.

Hermes only taught one student, His son. But that one son Asclepius (sic?) went on to teach pretty much every founding father of philosophy.

I remember reading "De vita triplicis"😊. Any thoughts on the Ficino-German Humanism connection and the academy in Florence? I seem to remember that neoplatonic magic and qabala seem to have been popular among the sodalitates, e g. Rhenana - Agrippa was a member iirc, so was Trithemius and Reuchlin... And Dürers work "Melancolia" def has a planetary square (Jupiter) right out of De Occulta Philosophia. It's great to hear this branch of scholarship taken seriously ❤

I'd also like to add, for any Dutch speaking audiences that maybe watching, the work of Roelof van den Broek and Gilles Quispel ''Hermetische geschriften'' (2016), which is published by the Embassy of the free mind in Amsterdam. If you happened to have mastered the Dutch language, the book is a perfect compendium in Hermetic philosophy.

The book includes translation of:
-The Corpus Hermeticum
-The Asclepius
-The Hermetic fragments of Stobaeus
-Fragments of Vienna, Berlin and Oxford
-Hermetic Testimonia of several Ancient writers (Zosimus, Tertullianus, Lactantius, ...)

And besides these translations, you also have a ton of references and commentaries from the authors concerning Hermetic texts and history.
