ОтветитьI have a Atto3 Premium, and has the V2L came with it, and tested it the other day, for use with my nebuliser in case of emergency on the road, found out it worked, and live in an area with constant blackouts so am thinking if worse came to worse, I can power my caravan in the case of an emergency, which am going to checkout one day though...but the V2L adaptopr is trully an amazing piece of hardware for any EV....highly recommend it though...but thanks for the video,
BTW I have 2 BYD's both premium trims the Atto3 and the Seal
V2H and V2G are illegal in most states in Australia. Many EVs don't even have V2 L comparability . Best option is to get solar panels and a Powerwall battery, to use if there is a blackout etc
ОтветитьMy ev is my personal baby
ОтветитьWe luckily did not lose power with the cyclone. I did make sure my car was fully powered up in case I needed to use V2L, and every night I topped up our home battery from the grid after midnight (the home battery alone would not last a full day, and if it was raining all day the solar would likely not fill it up). I have used the V2L in the past when we lost power, and it works without issue, so I knew we'd be fine if we lost power.
ОтветитьBuy a byd hybrid EV and get your gas tank to the full before the hurricane comes. The EV car can save your family in a week blackout.
ОтветитьGood job
ОтветитьMan, when everyone has an ev and charges up before bad storms, we wont bat an eyelid at a blackout
ОтветитьYeah, there needs to be a way to send the cables into the house
ОтветитьI use my BYD to run an induction cooktop when out in national parks etc. Fortunately I have not had a power outage but have tested it to run a wide range of appliances .
Ответитьso how much power per kwh was used?
ОтветитьI would love to get rid of my coal burning vehicle and get a EV
I can't understand why they weren't all automatically made

There's a lot of sour grapes and fossil fuel funded shills going around, hence the negative comments. Getting at least one EV is a no-brainer for multi-car households - you can use the EV for daily driving around town where it is most efficient, and use the petrol car for long distance trips where IT is most efficient (not that the EV couldn't handle the trip with some planning, but this appears to be a major bugbear for many people).
2nd hand EVs are in fact cheaper than their ICE equivalents - due to mistrust about how long they would actually last (NOTE: at least as long if not longer than any ICE car). So that's the best way to dip your toes into an EV. The best thing is, an older EV drives just as well as a brand new one.
Yes unfortunately Teslas can't do V2L, but there is a work-around by buying a 12V to 240V pure sine wave inverter that you connect directly into the 12V battery of the Tesla. With the Tesla kept running (such as in camp mode with AC off, it should automatically replenish the 12V battery from the traction battery as it is being discharged. Not recommended for too many high-draw appliances though as you don't want to drain the 12V faster than it could be replenished or you might have a dead car. Also the inverter is pricey compared to a (non-Tesla) V2L adapter.
Or you can buy a 3rd party V2L adapter for Tesla - but they are not cheap, even more expensive than an inverter.
I can just imagine this scene:
Nice neighbour: Hey Ellie, here's the extension cable again from my generator!
Ellie: All good thanks! I'm running everything from my car now.
Nice neighbour: <What on earth does she mean she's running everything from her car?>
Very good video. Hoping to sometime in the future be able to buy a Dolphin in Canada. At this time the tariffs are 100 %.
ОтветитьAdd solar....
ОтветитьDon’t shout too loud.
Electric companies will start switching off so you can power yourself, and probably charge extra for the privilege.
…then nobody will be driving anywhere, but will have an inefficient battery stuck to their unpowered house to take the strain.
As for “range anxiety”… that becomes “will heating the house end my battery”..?
It’ll end your little adventures.
Is there such thing as solar power panels for EV cars?
ОтветитьChina is testing v2g features which is you charge your EV at night when electricity usage is low and price is low. During the day you can plug your EV on any public charger and sell the electricity to the grid on peak usage. It can help balancing the grid also profit the EV users.
ОтветитьUnless you are in need of life support at home, a blackout is no more than an inconvenience. Having an urgent need to travel between points A and B, however, could be of critical importance. Finding that your car has zero range because it's been powering your house, is bat-shit crazy
ОтветитьIf only all EV’s could do this you make it sound like they can when in reality most of them can’t at least I know I’m ok with Bidirectional Chargers 🤔
ОтветитьV2L is the most underrated perk of electric cars. We get blackouts a few times a year usually for a few hours (just long enough to ruin the food), so plugging the fridge into the car has saved me lots of money. Also, TESLAS DONT have v2L. Just saying.
ОтветитьCar batteries are HUGE as far as home electricity use is concerned. The average home battery is 10-15kw, whereas cars are over 60.
ОтветитьElectric cars also have a safety feature that will turn the power off when the battery reaches a certain level. My gv60 can set the level to whatever i want
ОтветитьYou can do the same things with a petrol vehicle… just get an inverter… you can run small stuff off the 12 volt/ cigarette light plug… for more juice you’ll need to wire it directly to the battery, giving an emergency generator with a 20 gallon tank…if you know it’s about to hit the fan you can fill a bunch of ten gallon jugs … it’s great that you were able to power your refrigerator for a few days but in our part of the country having things thawing out isn’t usually the problem… how long would the car have kept you from freezing when the temp is -20 Fahrenheit for a couple of weeks…
ОтветитьI'm offgrid so my power was good while the grid went down.
My Ora is rumored to have V2L even though Ora/GWM don't mention it. Most Chinese EVs are rumored to have it.
I've order a cheap V2L adapter - at $38 I won't cry if it doesn't work.
I have a small generator as a backup but it has never been used and may not start if needed.
My car has over 3 times the capacity of my house battery and could power the place for weeks.
I drove my first EV 5 months ago , I rented it for a trip I made to New Zealand for two weeks and I loved it, brilliant technology and awesome to drive , it killed every ice car I've owned or driven , my next car will be an EV !!!
ОтветитьWow that's awesome to know!! Super handy
ОтветитьExcellent video. I too have a Dolphin (excellent little car) and it came with V2L cable as standard. Not sure how V2L helps me since I live in an apartment block - maybe I could buy a cheap bar fridge and keep it in the garage for an emergency? Not sure if V2G would assist me in my situation?
ОтветитьMg x-power has a 64kw battery ran my daughters little home and my home for 4 days, I have 3 ice drivers that are ev haters at my place may have some converts I did run my aircon too.
Guy next door has a 30 kw battery backup it fell over 1st day no sun before and after.
Been waiting for bidirectional charging for a while now. Still not as widespread as I would like and the V2H options in the US are still lacking both in quantity and quality (let alone V2G). I feel like we're inching towards it, but there are just so many uses for this that I feel like it really does need to be a necessity. V2L is pretty decent I think, and can certainly be scaled up for this purpose. But I really do want a no-thought option that just does the switch seamlessly for me
Ответитьsome byd ev/phev car also has the “high temperature sterilization” function, can be use for drying cloth in humid weather days😊
ОтветитьWe ran our fridge, freezer, nbn/wifi, kettle and toaster from my Kia Niro for around 24 hours through a power outage during cyclone Alfred. Used a little less than 10% of the battery. Totally stoked we have an EV.
Ответитьwell, I cooked my coffee couple times in wild via V2L. better by plug-in hybrid, that means endless V2L.
ОтветитьSome Teslas do have V2L - namely the CyberTruck. It also has V2H capability if you get the powershare stuff. Annoying that it hasn't migrated over to other models. In the US, most cars that have V2L are big (Pickups like Lightning, Silverado. Some SUVs.) But some of the smaller ones like Lucid Air and Hyundai/Kia cars have it too.
ОтветитьYou may find out another way. It is not good idea to dig a hole on window 😂
ОтветитьBoo
ОтветитьNot an EV hater, but that guy probably just hates everything made in China
ОтветитьIt helps me for the decision of next car
ОтветитьThen when the emergency call comes to leave the area, you have a car with a flat battery.
ОтветитьPHEV with V2L,best solution
ОтветитьCan you recharge your battery while leaving the car idling? Also what’s the cost of recharging the car from the power grid?
Ответитьput on some solar panels
ОтветитьEach of Australia's major cities have approximately 500 hectares of multi storey car parks.
How long will it take for each of these cities to get over the disaster that the obvious terror threat that EVa pose to Australia?
When each of these car parks enjoys the company of say 25% or more toxic lithium ion battery powered, Chinese controlled, EVs, how many multiples of the existing Melb-Syd-Bris fire brigades will it take to deal with a coordinated, religiously motivated, deliberate ignition of these cyanide creating devices?
Now that YOU know, when it happens, don't claim with that stupid look on your face that "It's not my fault! I didn't know!"
As a guide, look at how the South Koreans struggled to cope with a single Mercedes EV, powered by a Chinese Made and controlled battery pack. You might find that sobering viewing/reading.
So many many people are going to be killed because of this insane fad.
Used my V2L from a BYD to power an angle grinder as well as having used it for a picknic induction plate and hot water jug
ОтветитьWe've gone camping with our Atto3 touring our camper trailer. We ran an espresso machine, induction cooktop and electric kettle. And over the 2 nights we were there, we only used 3% of the battery! We're going camping again soon and this time were also taking a small Waeco fridge. 😊
ОтветитьWhts the load capacity of v to load?? Whts the maximum ac output
ОтветитьYou're lucky to have bought the pink dolphin when it was available! They don't have them anymore 😢
ОтветитьThe biggest problem with petrol generators, from home user to military, is they require regular maintenance. 95% of everyone I know with generators (even techies) find they are not working when they are needed. Typically, gas dries up in carbs and tanks. Corrosion can affect the ignition systems. Etc.
