So, thinking about it, in 1980s us was still a 2.9 T economy, that's when it started abetting the chinese growth, i assume us still was a manufacturing country at that time. Then in the next decades the economy was about 6 T. So it wasn't that back in the past. US still being below 3 T but capable of propping up China? Was it because of dollars reserve currency status? But that status itself was backed by 700 military bases at the end of WW2? So what came first?? US comes into picture brings in competent people, becomes a manufacturing power and sells arms by the time WW2 arrives....then it takes in some brilliant nazis who help them make nukes.....the US has a good military but now they have nukes.....they enter WW2 and win...the win gives them the key to everything, the military bases(smartest move ever). Then comes brittenwoods. And they get the 2nd key- the USD as world currency. That means that when the US acquired these two keys....it was a small economy (but maybe big for that time) and then everything took off from there for the US. This shows that competence whether native or poached is what is at the core of US power way before it became so wealthy. Technology and military.....and vision to capture what you can and hold it.😮
