To help Americans stay connected to their Navy while staying safe, the Navy Office of Community Outreach (NAVCO) is bringing a Virtual Navy Week to Santa Fe, New Mexico from Nov. 2-8, in lieu of an in-person event.
Santa Fe is the tenth and final Navy Week this year that has been transformed to a virtual event as part of the nation’s ongoing Coronavirus mitigation efforts. The Santa Fe virtual Navy Week will seek to re-create as many of the originally planned demonstrations and shows as possible online. Engagements will include live events on social media, demonstrations, interviews, and local media coverage of:
Senior Navy Leadership – Rear Adm. Chris Engdahl, President, Board of Inspection and Survey, will receive proclamations from the Lt. Governor of New Mexico, Howie Morales, as well as Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber, participate in a live social media interview and small business webinar put on by the Navy’s Office of Small Business Program
Local Sailors – Live social media events and conversations with sailors from New Mexico, including the Commodore of Explosive Ordnance Group 2, Captain Richard Hayes
Hometown Heroes - Videos featuring Santa Fe natives and New Mexicans that have served in the Navy and stories of community volunteers showing their support for the namesake ships
Two Navy Bands! Both Navy Band Southeast and Great Lakes - Virtual performances and live interviews with Navy Musicians
Naval History and Heritage Command – A cooking show with Bishop’s Lodge Chef Peter O'Brien and NHHC Historian and Chef Tom Frezza as well as and educational content about the deep ties between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Navy
USS Constitution - Virtual tours aboard the oldest commissioned ship in the Navy
Navy Parachute Demonstration Team – A parachute jump by the Navy Leap Frogs
This is the first Navy Week to be held in Santa Fe since the Navy Week program began in 2005. By going virtual, the Navy is able to work with its network of Navy partners to provide opportunities to interact with the Navy in live-streamed events, interviews and videos.
The Navy aims to provide content to the local and surrounding communities of Santa Fe looking for fun and engaging content to include band performances, Navy history reviews relevant to New Mexico and STEM-type subjects, which are a part of Navy operations.
