The gang conflict in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland is unlike any other in North America. Many young members are not driven by poverty, but instead come from middle-class homes. Surrey RCMP are working to prevent kids from joining gangs and enforce the law against those already involved in the dangerous lifestyle. Sgt. Mike Sanchez, head of the Surrey RCMP gang enforcement unit, says the gang landscape in British Columbia is unlike any other jurisdiction in North America. Gang members in Surrey, B.C., span socio-economic classes and are getting younger and younger. (August 26, 2019.)
