This statement will likely bother several of your readers. I have spent 20+ years as a BAIL BONDSMAN in my home state of Maryland. I'm from West Baltimore and I have posted bonds in all but 4 counties in this state. The primary purpose of a Bail Bond is to "insure" (bondsmen are licensed insurance agents) to performance of duty to APPEAR at the scheduled court date(s). This has no bearing on guilt or innocence. This man has cooperated in with law enforcement and flew back to NYC. He is prepared to pay an enormous bail fee and will likely have strict limitations regarding house arrest, and travel to and from his attorney's office and to court. He will likely be required to wear a monitoring device on his leg, and have strict limits on who can phone, text and meet. The feds would likely monitor his home and track and trail his every movement outside of his home. By law, everyone is assumed INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. OJ, Cosby, R. Kelly and Weinstein were all released on bond until their respective trials. OJ violated the terms of his bond in Las Vegas and had it revoked, so that he sat in jail until his trial and conviction. No harm, no foul to the public. I was living in Atlanta when Ray Lewis was charged with a major crime during the Super Bowl. He was released on BOND. And it turned out at his trial that had no involvement in the crime. So far, Diddy does not appear as a flight risk. And with his high profile, where could he hide? His passport will likely be taken and all airports will turn him away, just as Amtrak and Greyhound would. His car(s) would be tracked. Bond and trial are not the same. Didi is costing the government money by being held in the jail. The media told us in 1994 about OJ that it was a "slam dunk case". And a year later, Johnny Cochran showed us the holes in that same case. I'm NOT suggesting in any way that Diddy is innocent. I'm speaking to the due process. He will have his day in court and the facts will prove to everyone what he did. People watched for years what he did and what he was doing and no one thought him too dangerous to be on the streets, until now. What changed??? His wickedness will be proven in court at his trial. But he's no flight risk. As freaky as he is, he has nowhere to hide, if he wanted to not appear for his court date. We have to not be ruled by our emotions and understand the process of what's happening. And Gloria Allred's appearance during the discussion of bail only clouds the issues. The topic is BAIL and not "women's rights" and "women's divorce", which is what she's known for defending. Both valid issues, yet not relevant to the topic at hand. Emotions are clouding the true topic. Even Judge Joe Brown, who has far more legal knowledge than the average person, agrees that this man should be released on bail. Be patient and he will see his punishment in court, no matter being released on bond or detained.
