Beat the heat with the TOM COLLINS - an easy gin drink!

Anybody out there actually named Tom Collins? I'd like a word.

I have made probably 10 cocktails because of your videos and this one suprised me the most. I always wanted a reason to like Gin and now I have one, basically a fizzy boozy lemonade. Amazing.

When I was 19 years old, before I knew anything about bartending, I told a pretty girl at an apartment party that I’d make her a cocktail. I told her I was gonna make her a lemon drop martini, but what I put in the shaker (yes, at the party) was really the ingredients for a Tom Collins… including the soda water. I then vigorously shook the drink. In about five seconds the shaker exploded, sending the small end flying across the room and leaving me covered in sugar, lemon juice, gin, and bubbles. Everybody laughed, I did not get the girl, it inspired me to learn more, and now you know my Tom Collins story.

Think of a gin lemonade that's basically all it is. If it doesn't use old tom gin it's not a tom collins it's a gin fizz

Thank you for providing measurements for the soda water! Too many recipes just say, “Fill to top” which is useless if you don’t have these specific glasses

Hmmmm, we were told, back in the disco era, a Tom Collins was gin and 7up with a lime wheel. Interesting it's made with simple syrup and lemon juice. Hmmmm.

I just made this cocktail using Mulholland gin. I could really taste the cucumber and lavender notes from the gin. I can't wait to try this with other brands! Thank you for the video and recipe.

I make both, but never seem to get through them very fast.
Do you store them in a sealed jar?

Last month a bud of mine got into a good job and he bought a bombay sapphire to celebrate. Here in india Gin is pretty rare and expensive and we didn't know how to drink it cuz it felt too strong with water (like we drink whiskey). Tonic water was out of stock in some places we asked. Its a pretty small town here. And another mate of mine suggested we drink the gin like a rose lemonade. He mixed the drinks with lemon juice with about 1:1 gin-lemon.and it was the worst thing i had in my entire life and i had an overall bad perception of gin. It was only after i drank another Gin and Tonic in a bar that i realised how good gin actually is and its probably one of my fav drinks rn. Looking at the Tom Collins recipe this looks surprisingly easy to make, as i make mojitos all the time whenever i get down to drink. Wish i had made this drink the first time around 😂

So what is the difference between a Tom Collins and a Gin Rickey? Is it the simple syrup? Also, I'm not clear on the difference between Old Tom gin and Holland gin. Just different botanicals? Things that make you go "Hmmm."

Bourbon = Bubba Collins Tequila = Juan Collins. Irish Whisky = Sean Collins Cognac = Pierre Collins .... and I haven't even had a cocktail yet. :-).

my mom likes to make her Tom Collins with lychee juice instead of the lemon juice and syrup—so pretty much just gin, lychee juice and club soda—and garnish it with a lychee. very simple and pretty damn good, especially on a hot summer evening!

I dunno if its better or worse but I do like not having to buy lemons all the time

On June 24, 1967 I turned 21 years old. I was stationed at Da Nang, Viet Nam. I made it to the Air Base there, went to the NCO Club, and ordered (legally) the first drink I had ever ordered in my life. Not being a frequent imbiber, I asked the bartender for a "Tom Collins," which he made, served to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks for the memories! (I went on to complete a USAF career and retired as a First Sergeant [MSgt] and Chinese interpreter.

Good video, but I NEVER shake Gin (of any type) as any air (Oxygen actually) reacts with the botanicals and changes the subtle notes. Yes, a Tom Collins is a mixed drink, but why use gin at all in that case?... because it's flavors and aromas still come trough the sugar and lemon. This introduction of Oxygen, as you know, is called 'brusing' the Gin. Carbonated water uses CO2 gas and not Oxygen, so it doesn't bruise, but only stir gently to prevent introducing air. I'll make a Tom Collins all the time in the summer, but I make my simple syrup out of Stevia and water, it's not as thick but you get almost no sugar spike from it.

While watching my favorite summertime movie 'The Seven Year Itch' it got my interest in Tom Collins, it just looked so refreshing! I like to ask for a TC just to see the bartenders stop and think for a second. It's a hit or miss if they know how to make a good one.

Suggestion: As some of use ignore gin and gin based drinks, wouodd you consider making a Guide to the Differenbt Types of Gin?
