Interesting subject and not ideal by a long shot. Once the incapacitated pilot was out would you not get a senior cabin crew member in there with him.

Want feedback? I’m not a pilot. I’m 78. I haven’t flown since 9/11. I used to get on the plane and let the pilot fly the plane. But now since pilots are having these open discussions on social media, I find more reasons not to fly. I’ve been watching Mentor Pilot since you started. It’s not the fear of flying, it’s knowing that there are so many young cocky inexperienced pilots. I can’t drive to Europe or Australia or travel anywhere without flying. Feel like a hostage. I am not so cavelier to just jump on a plane and hope I get where I’m going. Think about what you are saying.

For the sunscreen question, get the ok take a UV meter up with you and that will provide the answer. Just affix it somewhere so it doesn't become a safety issue.

Who flys the plane if the solo pilot needs to have a biological escapement - maybe they will have a porcelain bowl where the co pilot seat would be. However, turbulence may become turdulence if negative g occurs.

There might be another path to a one pilot cockpit and that is having some sort of emergency switch (physical so it couldn't be hacked) that would allow for remote piloting. You would have to have several forms of security to activate it, but that would allow for 1 remote "First Officer" to be available for several planes at once

Just watched you Air India pod. Two questions. 1. Can an improper stabilizer trim configuration cause something like we saw? 2. What is the protocol/what are the chances of a FA believing a seemingly knowledgeable passenger if there is something off?

Let’s say a passenger sees flaps retract right after take off knowing it’s wrong. Would anyone listen?

That was brilliant - I really enjoyed it. Hadn’t “met” Ben before, but I’ve been watching Mentour Pilot for many years. The main thing needed for success in a dual input podcast is 2 people who can bounce off each other and get along, which you two have in abundance.

Petter’s family are delightful. Really down to earth and it would be great to see more of them, including the dogs. I’m so pleased they’re still alive and kicking.

I’d like to see a clip of someone you’ve trained, or been part of training, having now qualified. I already know how natural he is at teaching, when he showed me how to put the Mentour App on my desktop!

You could potentially post the Air India talk? I missed the patreon live stream, but maybe we could watch it here?
I'll pretty much listen to anything you talk about, I am interested!
I note QF had a trainee pilot faint in the cockpit during the week, luckily two other pilots ready to take over.

You shouldn’t use sunscreen. It keeps your body from making vitamin D. Your eyes need sunlight too. There is a gland in your eyes that needs sunlight too.ight. Saturated fats, omega-3 fats and retinol vitamin A are very important for protecting your skin, eyes and hydrating your body. Sugars and other carbohydrates have zero nutrients and dehydrate your body just like alcohol and caffeine do.

Great new show, love it 🥰 On the economics of AI, just remember the instrument panels will become obsolete and without pilots the space created will at the very least provide room for 4 extra passengers. Pilot cost savings plus additional 4 tickets income. The added bonus is that all passengers will be able to look out of the front window similarly like a passenger bus.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but... why do planes not use HUDs? It's pretty uncommon these days that you are using the windscreen primarily for looking through. But it's still very much in your natural field of view. So why not project alert messages onto it? They'd be bigger and more attention-grabbing than little blurbs of text on a single screen in a sea of buttons and knobs, or a lighted button that can mean half a dozen things (or more?) If you're too deep into the tunnel "vision" rabbit hole to hear "Terrain - Pull Up!", maybe you could at least see that in big letters across the windscreen in front of you?

Another thing that might factor into the sunscreen thing is maybe few/several decades ago it might have been beneficial, but that might have been resolved long ago in jets by Boeing or Airbus, so a once beneficial habit of one generation of pilots just passes on as tradition that is not really effective anymore.

They’d better ensure that any AI piloting an aircraft has its own internal, independent sensor systems, separate from the aircraft’s standard systems. In a critical failure, a human pilot still has their senses—eyes and ears to assess the situation, a nose to detect smoke in the cockpit. Even in extreme conditions, like a windshield sandblasted by, for example, volcanic ash, pilots can often still manage a safe landing. But if something were to disable the AI’s sensors or destroy its external cameras, it would effectively be blind. And the question is—how would an AI land a plane without sight?

This reminds me of some of the conversations around driverless tube trains in London. Whatever the technology, I will not board a driverless train and likewise, a single pilot plane. If companies start down that road, I would predict a significant amount of lost revenue due to customers avoiding them.

When I was younger, before Ronald Reagan ruined this country, airlines were regulated. If you wanted to fly it was going to cost you a lot of money. But the good part was safety was ensured, people in the industry did their jobs and got paid and the airlines made profits. After Regan you could fly from Tulsa to Kansas City for less than the cost of a bus ticket. And safety was an afterthought. We need intelligent government regulation and enforcement of those regulations. If you let the bean counters and Wall Street parasites run things people are going to die.

The USA is becoming a banana republic. We won't spend money on the basic infrastructure we need because rich people need more mansions and yachts and private jets. Funny thing is that congress men and women use the heck out of air transport. When pennies are pinched, safety is compromised.

I wear sunscreen everyday and I'm not even a pilot. Dermatologists say that sunscreen isn't dangerous, and it's mostly just misinformation. If the sun is so strong it would damage your eyes it is so strong that it is damaging your skin.

Just to add that dermatologists recommend spf every day AND reapplying it throughout the day. And you need to be mindful of how much you apply because it's only full effective if you apply enough.
Check out Dermangelo if you want to hear it directly from a dermatologist online
