can you share your tmux/kitty config? :)
ОтветитьStill waiting for the Software Version of the Home Server. Any idea when?
ОтветитьCan someone here tell me if the alternative motherboards support ECC memory? I find conflicting information on this online.
ОтветитьMotherboard is now $500 euros, lol. Knew this was too good to be true.
ОтветитьThat Intel 10 Gigabit SFP+ x 2 is adding half the price to the setup. 😬
ОтветитьGg
ОтветитьHi Wolfgang, do you remember in which length you‘ve ordered the sata calbes? Is 0,5 meters enough?
ОтветитьThat motherboard now doesn't exist anywhere except for fairy tales...
Any other recommendations, please? Even if I have to pay 300 bucks for it...
By that, I meant with the remote access capabilities, and ECC Memory support, which none of the alternative links here seem to have. :(
95 USD and 133 USD for shipping now in the US. Thanks Trump
ОтветитьWould love some insight into what the largest PCIe device length would be. Can a 3 fan GPU fit?
ОтветитьI followed this guide and I built almost this same setup, can't wait to see the next part where you explain how to do igpu pass-through for jellyfin, I'm struggling with that (only works for some file types and the other guides online are for intel processors). THANKS <3!!!!
ОтветитьI am wondering how come you chose a SATA expansion card and not an HBA card. Everywhere on Reddit I see folks recommending HBAs. What is the difference ?
Ответитьmake amd embedded cpu home server v1605b
ОтветитьHey! Recently, the project Pangolin hit v1.0.0, which claims to be a self-hostable alternative to something like Cloudflare Tunnels, allowing you to access your homelab through the internet and domain names (and whatnot) by hosting it on a VPS and then having it route traffic securely without needing to open any ports on your private network. If you've taken a look and like it, would you consider doing a video on how to get it set up?
ОтветитьHey poopyhead, where's our SW video?!
ОтветитьDon't get Intel X710 cards, they are known to be problematic.
ОтветитьHi @wolfgangschannel , thank you for sharing first of all. I think will be really hard to find some of the components and that is why I am using your list as a starting point. However, I am a little bit confused about ECC on your type motherboards and all similar alternatives on the market (based on availability). Almost all (because some not even list but I am assuming is the default) describe the RAM as ECC compatible but using "non-ECC functionality", so what is the catch there? As I understand this means eve if you buy a ECC RAM that function will not be of any use. The only thing I find on the research is that ECC are ranked as better quality and performance by default than those that are not, but then, isn't better jus to buy a regular MB with no ECC support and buy a normal RAM? Or are we just doing this choice becasue the above reasoning on quality? Thanks
ОтветитьConsider yourself being called a poopiehead 😅. Thanks for the nice video. Really looking forward for the software version. Any plan when it will come out 🙂?
ОтветитьSoftware video please. Great work on the hardware build, looks great!
Ответитьjust fyi, I purchased this case and as soon as I plugged in the molex connectors, it tripped my PSUs over current protection and fried my CPU. The PSU was more than capable to handle the power over the 12V rail. I wasn't even using the top daughterboard. I was only using 3 of the bottom sata ports.
ОтветитьFILTERS! Desperately needs dust filters!
ОтветитьDoes someone know when that softer video guide comes out?
Ответитьmight be because of your video but that motherboard goes for 300-450 on ebay :S
ОтветитьAnyone found a more accessible case that’s similar?
ОтветитьAny Chance to get this MoBo in EU for cheap?
Or any recommendations for some adequate replacement? Thanks.
You are a poopy head..... ;-)
ОтветитьYou must have bought the only motherboard at that price. For $400 I got an epic 7551p, asrockrack motherboard and 32gb ddr4 ecc. That's cheaper than I can find just that motherboard for.
ОтветитьGreat video 👍, I'm trying to replicate this build, I'm having some problems with the ECC RAM, looking at the QVL I got this reference KSM32ES8/8ME for the kingston, but at the moment I'm only able to find this reference KSM32ES8/8HD. Looking at the Kingston website it seem the latter one replace the other. Can I somehow confirm if the motherboard support this new one? (KSM32ES8/8HD)
Thanks, Best regards.
That case is sexy...looks like to Hyte Revolt 3 slapped together
Ответить9 euros for bunch of Tbs is really cheap. I'm switching to home server and moving away from paid cloud.
ОтветитьPoopie head 😂
ОтветитьWow, this looks to be great.
I need to watch it twice.
But don't forget that you still need Off site backups
Great content here, I would like to see a follow up with a "frankenstein" intel mobile motherboard SoC that supports ECC sodimm like the core ultra 285 HX or lower, these HX cpus have alot of PCIe bandwidth, great ARC iGPU, NPU + ECC sodimm without the need for a chipset as it is an SoC, and even thunderbolt support. a theoretically perfect chip for your purposes. Asrock will no doubt make an unobtanium motherboard for this, hopefully utilizing dual 8i mini SAS connectors for both 8 Sata and dual U.2/U.3. Perhaps aliexpress boards will get this SoC. There's no reason for ECC support to be locked down, just an option for enabling in bios should be all that's required. That's your dream motherboard right there, a couple of M.2, onboard dual i226v series networking and remote management. All in a itx form factor would be insane, they could even put one if the M.2 slots on the rear, along with 2 more sodimm slots. I imagine this would be the penultimate server for automating your house. And running a heck of alot of services while leaving the PCIe slot open for more networking or a dGPU.
ОтветитьSince AMD only supporting unregistered ECC in these chips, it doesn't really count as "Real ECC" as you have no real safety that the data is actually 100% identicall. You need registered ECC for it to be anything worth. And that you most often only see in actual server grade boards and CPU's that cost several times more. You are deluding yourself if you think unregistered ECC is any real advantage. Apart from that, it's a nice build as far as you don't need effective hardware encoding support for eg Plex.
Ответитьhey Wolfgang thank you for the video!
i have 2 questions:
Is there any main resource to research for power efficient hardware? rn I'm running a ryzen 5 4600G with an Intel Arc A380 at ~100W when doing normal stuff. I also have 6 HDDs and 2 SSD (1 nvme and normal). The mobo is a msi b550 gaming. I plan to change some hardware to get better power results but I don't know where to start. I also want to have 10gbe networking but I guess this is not possible with a gpu, and a LSI HBA.
The other question is dedicated to the SSD/NVME situation. I'm running ubuntu server 24.04 with btrfs raid10 and want to implement some sort of cache but I don't know where to start. I already looked into bcache and LVM, but both sound like they have more disadvantages than advantages. Could you explain to me how to do this in linux like ubuntu or nixOS and not in those shiny systems like true nas or unraid?
Thanks again for your content!
How do you pick a CPU for your homelab based on idle consumption if you have a couple of old ones laying around?
Is there a good list to consult for this information or do you have to research them one by one?
Amazing and inspring video. Thank you!
ОтветитьI really liked this case, until I saw the shipping cost to the USA. $95 for the case, but $135 to ship it to me. I guess I'll have to pass on that!
ОтветитьWhen is the software video coming? lol with 400K+ views I can see why the motherboard is now selling for like €250… excellent video as always, kudos!
ОтветитьHave you considered Jonsbo N5?
ОтветитьII was told to call you a poopy head by some mean dude but im not about that. i am curious when that software video would be coming out though.
ОтветитьHey man.. I'm getting a deal of used 9100f msi vdh b series board, cooler master mwe 450 bronze v1, 8gb ram and 120gb wd green NVMe, gt 610 gpu. Full set @ $102. Is it worth it for nas/homelab?
ОтветитьMaybe the mc12-le0 was at 60€ 2 months ago or even a year ago, but that's over. The price of the few boards sold nowadays have skyrocketed to some ridiculous degree. This isn't on option anymore.
ОтветитьHey poophead, when is the next video coming?
ОтветитьIs the extra pcie lanes of a 4750g worth it btw? I heard ryzen lanes can be a bottleneck
ОтветитьHey poopyhead, when the video is coming out? :D
ОтветитьWhere does one get this motherboard normally? I live in EU and its currently no cheaper than £300!!
Ответить
