this is a great example as to why i asked about the 1 meter two panels and you answered with the 320 to max 400 amp meter entrance than tht led me to 400 amp service entrances with multiple breakers. as always great video good tips to future load requirements planning. stay safe ty for all you do and show.

those tht dont understand his videos call a pro

Josh, is there any reason why my main panel would not have a bonding screw or a main copper ground wire? It’s not acting as a sub panel because all my neutrals and grounds are together. This should be bonded, correct? The only thing I can think of, the meter base is grounded and the 2” EMT going from my meter base to my main panel is acting as a ground. House was built in 86. Its been working for 30+ years, I thought it was odd. Any help would be great!

I enjoy your videos. I am putting a 100 amp sub panel in a shop. I want the line in conduit. What side wire from the panel to the sub panel would be code? The shed will have 3 - 220s, 8- plugs and 3 lights. I am running 6 circuits - one each for the 220s, 2 circuits for the plugs and 1 for the light. The sub panel is @60 feet from the panel.

What side wire from the panel to the sub panel would be code?

What size conduit would be code?

Ha, I used to live in Boulder County not too far from the city of Lafayette. Boulder county can be a-holes!!!!! I was told that before building a detached garage that you have to have wiring or I should say conduit under the concrete first? Is that a must or just a preference from certain builders?

if I am running from my house to a detached garage, do I need 4 wires? I thought I can run 3 wires provided I put two 8' grounding rods into the ground and I ground my garage sub panel to that ground.

Installation settings can derate a charger to prevent overloading total capacity. I’d still try to support a 14-50 receptacle at 2 bays... that might get $$

My brother in law run water lines and electricity to my garage where my parents live. The problem is that when my mom turns on microwave and minisplit ac it trips the breaker and also a combination of other appliences.
The garage has a lot of outlets and I think they are on a 20amp breaker with a 14 gauge romex cable and brother in law also got electricity from the exiating 220 0r 240 outlet in garage to add more stuff. When breaker trips the whole power goes out in garage and also in kitchen of the main house. I think circuit is overloading.I was thinking of adding a 60amp circuit to main box and running a new line to garage and in garage add one of this boxes Eaton Corporation Br816L125Fdp 6 Circuit Main Lug Load Center, 125-Amp???
Also will I need to cancell all existing outlets and start from zero or is there a way to just add the new line to existing outlets in garage??? Thank u

My family had a lake cabin with a detached garage. I remember my dad burying Romex in the dirt from the cabin to garage. The Romex wasn't long enough, so he spliced the wires inside a glass jar, and buried it also. It worked, and fortunately no one got electrocuted.

A few decades later, the cabin got demolished. My sister had a contractor build a new, fancy lake cabin. I'm sure the workman were laughing at splice when they dug it up.

I over size a garage 3 car garage I ran 2 - 3” pipe a second was a spare. I was in the plan for 1 EV chargers now it 2 EV chargers though 2 chargers are 98 amps total but owner bought 2 so I ran 4/0 wire and have on a 175 amp main panel and the panel has a 200 amp panel in garage . Now there talking about other stuff now I’m in middle of the project. EV chargers has changed the game for me.
At Cumberland farm we pull parallel 500cm and sometimes we pull a 3rd set just for voltage drop.
The garage is 110 feet away from the house.

I always Over size the pipe and bring a spear to detach garages I like to make the pulling of wire easier through the pipe. I hade to go back to some garages where I have 80 amp and the EV chargers have started to trip the breaker luckily I could just pull out old wires and put in bigger wire up to 4/0 if I needed it.
Proper planing prevents piss , poor, problem.

You did a great job explaining I however am disgusted that ev cars push electrical codes on homeowners that may never own one and probably never will if I can help it. That should be on the buyer of said vehicle if that's what they want to drive. Things are getting a bit ridiculous if you ask me. I had my detached garage built for my likings not somebody else's. That being said it's wired for 100amp but maybe the next guy only wants or needs 30. That's should be for the home buyer to discuss not the owner to just deal with it. When time comes

Yes but doesn’t the third law state that: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law?
