oh wow! saw your IG story but didn't know you were doing a whole race, haha

as someone who has also experienced all three: there's one big factor against tesla, which is that it is ultimately not "driverless". when i get in a waymo or a cruise, i am strictly a passenger and there is zero expectation for me to do anything at all. when i used FSD beta, i was a driver with slightly less necessity for my own input, but still responsible for monitoring. that speaks volumes to the difference in strategy and capabilities.

If it’s a true self driving test, any intervention should disqualify you from the race.

Great test. I understand the systems much better now.

I am worried about the existence of cars coated with holographic paint.

Because with holographic paint the base color of a car can drastically change according to the viewing angle.

Could you do some testing with robotaxis? I exoect Tesla vision to be the most disturbed system with the removal of ultrasonic sensors.

Even LIDAR sensor efficiency may be altered by holographic paints because of how light rays are reflected, making light path less predictable.

Very clever that you chose to do this test in the middle of the night where no traffic is around. Absolute real-world conditions. Also it's utterly ridiculous to compare cars that have limitations like being geofenced from using a highway vs. others that don't.

Ryan and team, thank you for giving us another sample of where the leading self driving tech is at.

If there is ever a chance to do a fogged in race, that would be interesting. In theory, Tesla would not do well. Would love to see if that is true.

But hey, Mercedes has Level 3 on certain highways in Arizona, during day, when the weather is nice and there is traffic jam and max speed is 40 mph. Lol. When the Mercedes Engineers see this video, they will quit their job.

It’s apples and oranges. Tesla has someone behind the wheel. The stakes are totally different.

I don't know. The most important feature of self driving is accident rate. You can't test that here.

It didn’t win though? It needed human intervention to not put the driver in a dangerous situation.
